Obama's nomadic garb - no religious significance. May relate to council for Peace & Development
Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 11:17 AM by IndyOp
Understanding is key...

The meaning of Obama's robes

Yusuf Garaad Omar head of the BBC's Somali Service explains the meaning of the robes: These are the normal clothes that nomadic people wear. The head turban is especially used by elderly people as a suggestion of respect. It is something that has no meaning whatsoever in Somalia culture.

If you see someone dressed like that in Somalia, you think it is a nomadic person - that is all. There is no religious significance to it whatsoever. It is mainly the nomadic people who use it. Some of them are religious, some are not.

They have a council for Peace and Development, and when they get delegates they dress them as a nomadic person.

A delegate to the council for Peace and Development?

Do not use this thread to criticize Clinton or Obama or their supporters! If you'd like to take a swing at Drudge, feel free.

4. You are welcome - the corporate media & their political PR friends lead us round
by the nose-rings as a result of our overall lack of cultural awareness. Maybe not you, but me and most other Americans.

5. I heard a clip of Obama on CNN yesterday where he calmly said
something like everybody knows that traditional attire is often given to foreign dignitaries and is respectful to show one's appreciation by putting them on.

Then this morning on the stupid Today show they flashed the picture a bunch of times and speculated on whether it was leaked to Drudge by the Clinton camp and never explained the context of the photo.

Before that they had Hillary's operative sound bites from Thursday night, Saturday, and Sunday.

Then they had Barack saying "You know. . ." in a speech.

I just thought it was sort of odd given how much more time they gave to Hillary this morning especially after the SNL spoof of the debate.
