Poll question: Poll Not Working: IGNORE THIS Kerry, Petraeus, Webb, Zinni, Hagel
Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 11:15 AM by Sensitivity
In 2004 John Kerry wanted to take Clark as V.P. The party voices rallied behind the John Edwards lobby and Kerry caved. That denied Kerry the National Security strength to hit back at the Swifties. We know what happenned.

Please don't do the same to Obama!!!

He absolutely must make a National Security V.P selection to begin to neutralize McCains war and terror advantage. He also wants to win with a national coalition which crosses party lines in order to be able to get things done.

PLEASE STOP SUGGESTING V.P CHOICES THAT UNDERMINE THAT OBJECTIVE.

Wes Clark is known here and is an obvious favorite. But Clark has been criticising Obama so we may want to do some research into the others who are more likely for a change, and take a little time to think. For example:

Senator James Webb's is a highly decorated Vietnam War combat veteran with a son in Irq. During his four years with the Reagan administration, Webb served as the first Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, then as Secretary of the Navy. As a former Republican he could help win independents and the state of Virginia.

General David Petraeus is not just Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army and "America's most respected soldier” but this preeminent military strategist has a Ph.D. in International Relations from Princeton University. He has approached Iraq just the way Clark and others recommended – from a position of strength he negotiated strategic compromises with former enemies. Has expressed interest in presidential politics, let it be as a Democrat.

General Anthony Zinni is a highly decorated combat veteranand one of the most respected and outspoken military leaders of the past two decades.

When he retired in 2000 he was commander-in-chief of the United States Central Command, in charge of all American troops in the Middle East, but after being appointed special envoy to the Middle East he broke with the Bush administration and became one of the fiercest critics of Bush Iraq war. In his book "The Battle For Peace" (2006) Zinni argues that the roots of the world's growing turmoil are not being addressed and that America's aggressive confidence is making it worse--with potentially devastating implications for the safety of Americans

Here are some choices with National Security experience that meet those objectives:

5. No, he isn't....
...but I don't at all see why he would be considered as a democratic VP potentially. That I don't see at all.

4. None of the above....
The stars are aligning for Bill Richardson.

Obama needs the following....

1) Someone to combat the 'experience' argument. Someone with a deep resume.
2) Someone who is not a "Washington Insider" and compliments his change platform. Not a Senator.
3) Someone with administrative/executive experience to balance his visionary approach.
4) Someone who helps get the hispanic vote, which Obama has made inroads in, but can use some help.
5) Someone who will help him compete in key western swing states where he needs to be strong.

Sound like anyone you know...

7. I prefer Jim Webb. He hits back hardest against....
... Republicans who want to play the "patriotism" card. He smacked down Joe Lieberman once on Meet the Press.

Another time on Meet the Press, Lindsay Graham told Jim Webb he wasn't competent to speak on Iraq since he'd never traveled there on a congressional junket. "It's a dog-and-pony show, Senator," he responded.

And remember Webb's Democratic Response to last year's State of the Union?

Webb's the guy... and he could help deliver Virginia, to boot.

8. Yeah, gotta love his FISA vote
I don't want any of these people that are part of the
military industrial complex within a heart beat of the president.
