Front Page Picture
I'm sure you're all sick of the Obama Dress up threads from yesterday, BUT...

I just wanted to say that it's on the front page of the NY Post and NY Daily News today. I went into my local supermarket to buy some cheap snack (can't afford the convenience store version any more), and I saw the papers and chucked. HUGE pic of Obama wearing Muslim garb. In medium print, it said Obama accuses Hillary of smear or some such thing. Meanwhile a lady walked by and looked at it and turned to me and said, "is he a muslim?" "That's just what we need."

This is what you need to watch out for in GE if he gets the nomination.

Don't expect this to be as easy as you think, newbies.

1. Thanks.
:hi: Oldbies pretty much knew it wasn't going to be all pecan pie and snugglebunnies.

But thanks for letting us know that the people who'd be swayed by those papers got more grist for their mill.

Cuz, ya know, those are the kind of voters the Democrats can really count on. Post and Daily News readers. Yah, FOX watchers, too.

I dunno. I'm kinda new to all this.

Thanks.

:eyes:

OH NOES!!!! We lost the Post!!! FLEE FOR YOUR LIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

6. Hey dipshit
The New York Post is the 13th-oldest newspaper published in the United States and the oldest to have been published continually as a daily.<3> Since 1976, it has been owned by Australian-born billionaire Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation and is one of the 10 largest newspapers in the United States.<4> Its editorial offices are located at 1211 Avenue of the Americas, in Manhattan.

Thanks again for the "newbies" warning.

Find a mirror.

Sorry to be harsh, but I've had a budget of this dicked-up place today. You trying to scold me about the "liberal" Post is about one gram of shit too much for me to stomach.

Have fun with this: http://www.cjr.org/resources/

It's actually like information and stuff, just in case you aren't accidentally talking to a newbie.

Like you. ;)

Seriously, that website is gold. Spend some time.

It would be supporting Clinton. It had left wing editorials all the time. While the Post is owned by Murdoch.

3. You tell us to watch out for this in the GE? Thanks but that is not reason not to support him. . .
. . .it is the reason ALL DEMOCRATS, and a few GOPers, should denounce this type of tactic, not excuse it. And if we are loud enough, effective enough and unified enough we should send it a statement that these types of tactics will not work this time.

7. Oh? Hillary owns Drudge? Hill owns the liberal Daily News?
You newbies better fasten your seatbelts. If Hill drops out and Barack wins the nomination, this stuff will escalate off the charts and it won't just be an unphotoshopped picture. It will complete lies and smears. I already know of one smear that involves drugs and gay sex. It's in the wings, people. Be prepared.

PS: I will vote any Dem over McCain.

for 20 years, it's obnoxious and arrogant to assume I am a newbie.

Oh and your big secret "drugs and gay sex" scandal. In case you havent been paying attention, the guy failed two polygraphs.

Hillary's camp sent it to drudge, they issued a nondenial in the morning then after it picked up steam they issued a "we didnt authorize this" but no denial that it came from one of their staffers and have we seen the staffer who sent this fired? No.

I am WELL aware what to expect, I just didnt expect it from one of our own, and does that make it any better or more valid? no.

20. Please pay attention. Hillary did not publish the picture in print or
circulate it on the internet. Hillary did not release the picture. The picture was published weeks ago in a supermarket tabloid and Drudge is the one who posted it to his website. There has been no proof shown that Hillary or her campaign had anything to do with "leaking" the picture to Drudge. How often do we trust Drudge to tell us the truth when it comes to reporting about a Democrat?

Until you can show me solid proof, not heresay, that Hillary and her campaign had anything to do with this I will continue to suspect that it was done by Republicans, just as you say you would have expected. Not to mention the fact that this has had a far more negative impact on Hillary's campaign than it has Obama's. Do you think that Hillary planned that too?

We are being played by a group of people who are desperate to remain in power and will stop at nothing to demonize the Democratic candidates. We've seen it happen in the past. Just wait until they turn on Obama. We haven't seen anything yet.

21. ROFL
Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 09:36 AM by yourguide
wow, OK - and you guys suggest WE are newbies? ROFL. Pay attention to what is going on here, CLOSE attention.

The HRC camp expected that Drudge might show that picture questioning his so called "muslim roots" but instead it backfired. Even Drudge knows dirty politics when he sees it and he managed to hit two dems with one stone. However, it's pretty obvious he didnt just make up getting it from the Clinton camp - if he had there would have been strong denials considering that overwhelming amount of negative press she's received. And that campaign is so tone deaf the first statement they issued was a nondenial asking why he was uncomfortable with the image. Not a statement denouncing the politics of smear.

No denial from the Clinton campaign that it came from someone within the campaign, and considering how much BAD press she's been getting on it I would come out and either deny, or apologize and fire the offender. None of that, it was "I have no personal knowledge" or "there are 700 people that are part of our campaign".

and WE'RE the newbs???? :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

and how much negative press she's received, any smart campaign would issue strong denials and denounce the politics of smear, that is of course unless my campaign was indeed guilty of it.

30. what gives you the idea that a campaign consisting of veterans of Presidential Campaigns
Guys who've done this for YEARS , who have carefully honed our strategy to emerge victorious, bringing together new voters and experienced ones, all according to a professionally prepared plan that we have worked for the past twenty four months...

Are "newbies"? Or that we haven't prepared for the general, knowing full well what the right wing Wurlitzer is capable of?

Sounds to me that YOU might be the one in for a shock, chum. You seem to have vastly underestimated us.

Which is also a part of the plan. :)

27. The Daily News headline today: "SMEAR WE GO"
Edited on Tue Feb-26-08 10:04 AM by Jersey Devil
Yes, it has the pic of Obama in "traditional African garments" (not "muslim garb" as you posted but "dressed as a Somali elder"), but the story is not a depiction of Obama as a Muslim as you suggest.

The Democratic White House race detoured into name-calling and accusations of "fear-mongering" Monday as Hillary Clinton scrambled to save her teetering campaign from annihilation.

The increasingly bitter duel for the nomination in advance of tonight's final debate went nuclear over a picture of Barack Obama dressed in traditional African garments making the rounds on the Internet.

Obama's team accused a "shameful" Camp Clinton of circulating the photo of Obama dressed as a Somali elder, taken during a visit to Africa in 2006. Obama has been dogged by false rumors that he is Muslim.

Both major NY dailies, if you bother to read the stories, characterize the photo as a smear of Obama. Try reading them.

32. BBC: The meaning of Obama's robes
<snip>

"A photo of US presidential candidate Barack Obama wearing Somali clothing is causing a storm after it got released to the Drudge Report website.

Yusuf Garaad Omar head of the BBC's Somali Service explains the meaning of the robes.

These are the normal clothes that nomadic people wear.

The head turban is especially used by elderly people as a suggestion of respect. It is something that has no meaning whatsoever in Somalia culture.

If you see someone dressed like that in Somalia, you think it is a nomadic person - that is all.

There is no religious significance to it whatsoever. It is mainly the nomadic people who use it. Some of them are religious, some are not.

It is simply a tradition of the place where they are from."
