Obama supporters: I have some excellent advice you should give to Obama concerning tomorrow's debate
Tell him to call in sick!! For the sake of his own reputation, it just is not worth going through with this!

Look, if Barack shows up for this debate tomorrow, he may never be the same candidate who you once loved and admired. Hillary is planning on going up one side of him, down the other, and back up again just for kicks. It will not be pretty. You already saw how he could barely get the words out of his mouth when he tried to respond to the mocking she gave him this weekend. Do you really want to see him be stuck for words again tomorrow night, live in front of a national audience?

Remember how Hillary made believe she cried? Well, Obama should make like he's got the flu or laryngitis or anything that gives him an honorable excuse to skip out of town for this next debate.

My friends, I swear I'm just trying to help out here. If Obama is crazy enough to go through with this, just don't say I didn't try to warn you. OK?

He doesn't have to say anything of substance, just take jabs. Not one of his supporters will notice.

That being said, I don't think people will pay much attention to Obama - they'll be tuning in for the Brittney Spears of politics. Can't wait to see what kind of nutty stuff she'll pull tomorrow.

Hillary will either need to make nice, which will expose that everything she did this weekend as a series of lies.

Or she needs to go on the attack and multiply her "Xerox" moment by a thousand.

Hillary is in a lose lose situation, she will lose. Then on March 4th she will lose some more.

Check the polls, she is losing it, again.

And that poor Hillary - she just couldn't help it - her advisors made her go over the top on toughness (and remember it was the toughness angle that kept her from being able to apologize about her IWR vote)
And then when she needed to be seen as human, and cried, many of us were suspicious that she was faking it.

It's a shame no one told her to just be herself.

80. There is this story the press tells about
Meeting with her, I think this was back in December, and they said, "Now just relax and be yourself" and she spent the next ten minutes re-arranging the pillows on the couch.

I don't think that strangers or campaigning comes very naturally to her. I have known people who have met her in her home, around her family and her friends, and they found her warm and funny and charming.

And I have thought she has improved in terms of energizing her audience.

It's just her years of triangulation, duplicity etc don't allow me to like her.

57. You did!
That's such a classic interaction - he made McCarthy look like the monster he was at the key moment.

Made Ike's life easier since he didn't have to stand up for the people or the army.

Bentsen had a Welch moment, didn't he. That was just perfectly delivered and he meant it too. That true patrician bearing looking down on Quayle. Yikes.

I'm agnostic on Obama but not on the movement forming around him. There's a lot of hope.

We'll see what he does.

61. Mmmmmhmmm....yeah right
Keep talking! Clinton BEGGED for a debate with him in Texas. He showed the American people who was ready to be president. The only good moment Hillary had is when she PRETENDED to care about the American people at the end. NUMEROUS polls after the debate showed that he increased in the polls and she dropped. I wonder which Hillary will show up tonight? She has so many split personalities.

* Also, I hope Barack does not pretend to like her at the debate. I would not hold her chair out. She does not deserve that much respect. She deliberately went after his CHARACTER (not policy) this week and that is unacceptable. Even though Barack agrees with her he has never brought himself down to the point of trying to destroy her PERSONALLY! Hillary is a desperate person and I hope Barack remains calm regardless of what she says and shows the American people just how desperate she is.

63. Don't people tend to get into trouble taking advise from snakes?
Was that you in the garden of Eden?

He can and should be just as he was in the last debate - pleasant and Presidential. If HRC acts as you say, the best he could do is to take a deep breath, remember who he is and respond as rationally and as compassionately as he can. The one that will lose in that case will be HRC, who will be called on that behavior.

I honestly doubt she will act like that - I think we will see an appearance of your "Goddess of Peace". The best she could do is keep the entire debate in the tone of her last question last time. Then, the danger to Obama, is if he comes in already offended by her behavior this week. His job would be to match her niceness.

67. snakefucius say: She who gets her opponent acting all angry is most likely to succeed.
If Obama makes the mistake of showing up tonight, Hillary will calmly say some things to get him off his game. I remember in one of the early debates someone, I think it might have been Kucinich, got Obama all pissed off and Obama clearly was not the same calm guy when he loses his cool that we're always used to seeing.

Hillary is going to go after him but in a tactical, but firm way. Obama is going to lose his cool, which will not be good for his image. Wait and see, karynnj :smoke:

Those who can keep their cool and not react to provocation have a very big advantage. You note one of the few instances when Obama reacted at all - other than Kerry - Obama might be the best at refusing to respond in anger.

It is MUCH more likely that if she did what you said, there would be many negatives things said about her.

72. But in the meantime, this place will be gloomy tomorrow after Hillary reveals a side of Obama
tonight that few people on DU will be happy to see.

I think Hillary is going to do everything within her power tonight to get Barack off his game. IOW, I believe she's going to say some things to him or about him that will cause him to lose his cool and come off as unpresidential. The couple times in the past that Obama got angry, he could barely get the words out of his mouth. If he can stay cool, he'll be ok, but if she can get him to lose it, then he's going to be hurt.

I fully expect by this time next Wednesday the Goddess of Peace will have everything going her way, starting with tonight where Obama gives in to his emotions. :smoke:

69. LOL! You wasted one of your three threads on THIS?

Hillary needs a BIG win in Texas and Ohio to stay alive. How's that working out?

71. And some advice for Clinton: Press him hard on the issues of
the duplicate keys to the wardroom icebox, and the missing strawberries. I advise using geometric logic.

75. All he has to do is apologize for the pamphlets, say it was a mistake
not to check out what was being sent out in his name and Hillary will have no where to go with this issue. I only hope she is prepared for this kind of response, it would be striking.

77. It would be amazing. However,...
why apologize? Hillary was begging Obama to draw contrasts between their stands on the issues, and he did. She simply didn't like seeing it.

74. No, the debate will be good for him. He'll know what to expect
from the Republicans and he can hone his skills.
