Ralph Nader Runs Low-Key Presidential Campaign (hints of money problems?)
Ralph Nader Runs Low-Key Presidential Campaign

By Anne E. Kornblut, The Boston Globe Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News

Mar. 20--WASHINGTON - Three weeks after announcing his presidential bid, Ralph Nader is running a campaign so elusive that it is almost impossible to find.

Its phone number is unpublished. Its headquarters is tucked inside the offices of one of the candidate's nonprofit ventures in Washington's Dupont Circle neighborhood. Either Nader is running a stealth operation or his campaign has not raised enough money to operate in a traditional manner.

"We're still getting off the ground," Kevin Zeese, a senior Nader campaign aide, said somewhat cautiously on Thursday, appearing startled to receive a visitor at Nader for President headquarters and refusing to give an impromptu tour.

1. And some were so worried a few weeks ago
Nader in my opinion will not affect this election. Most people know that too much is at stake.

3. We should all write donation checks for one cent...
The Nader campaign would have to spend $ on banking fees, tax reports, and campaign finance quarterly reports.

It probably costs around $3 to process and document each check sent to the campaign.

I feel so strongly about this election (no offense to Ralph) that I'm considering doing this.

4. I'll give Nader money...
when hell freezes over. Even one cent would be too much.

It's good to know that few if any progressives or liberals are giving him money.

5. Well, Ben Stein sent Nader $500 according to CNN's Judy Woodruff.
$1,000 to Bush and $500 to Nader. Judy called him Bush's only "celebrity" contributor this quarter.

7. The sad thing is...
the cash on hand isn't that much greater than Kerry's. Those that are giving Nader money are either conservatives like Ben Stein, or are just masochistic freaks.

12. Nader will make it to the election.....
count on it. The right wing powers that be will make sure of it. They know how to channel funds in his direction to make sure the money will be there for his run. They know every sneaky, illegal, underhanded, sleazy, back door method there is to make sure he's got the money to stay in the race and make no mistake, they want him in the race. Nader could be the difference between victory and defeat for them and there's no way they're gonna give up that 5%-6% points out of their column that he'll hand them.

14. Maybe Ralphie is feeling the sting of rejection
by progressives and is having second thoughts. I doubt it but it is worth thinking about.

17. Nader's last good whine
I don't even think Nader's going to make it on the ballot. He has no party to prop him up this time. He has to garner tens of thousands of signatures in each state over the next several months to make it on, a total of 1.5 million in all 50 states, and he's operating on a shoestring budget. I used to respect Nader, but now I think he's just a crybaby whiner who likes to spoil things for the democrats because they don't want to play with him anymore. What he fails to take into account in his tantrums is that We The People suffer for his ego by getting Bush elected.
