Fairfield County voters will not elect a representative in Congress for more than seven months, and the Republican incumbent has not officially launched his campaign.

But Democrats seem to be in an energized mode usually reserved for October.

"I have never seen such excitement," said Martha Aasen, chairwoman of the Westport Democratic Town Committee, who has been involved in local politics for 40 years.

"It's not like, 'Oh, isn't it wonderful we have a good person.' We have such a good person running, and we are going to win this."

2. What about Rob Simmons?

He seems vulnerable if Democrats can get their act together - the district certainly leans Democratic. Nancy Johnson too, although she has a certain following and would be tougher. Shays is by far the most popular Republican in the state, and he's in the most Republican area, so while beating him would be great I'm not convinced its all that likely.

3. I'm new to the area
So I just know what's happening in my own county. But Shays' district includes Bridgeport, and he can only be so popular so long as he seems like a McCain (as opposed to a DeLay) Republican.

He's a tough challenger, and for a GOPer he's OK. But I think we've got a real shot with this woman.

4. How about Lieberman?
When is his seat up?

I hope he has a primary challenger.
