URGENT! DNC FLASH AD SUCKS! WE WILL LOSE if this isn't fixed immediately!!
First go to the DNC website and watch the pure shit they've got up as a Flash ad:

http://www.democrats.org/deficit/flash.html

Then go over to Daily KOS to read the outraged postings by Democrats:

http://www.dailykos.com/story/2004/3/20/03712/0547

In a week in which Kerry has stumbled, Bush has closed the gap in the polls and the New York Times has reported on Rove's "90-day attack strategy," how can Terry McAliffe and the DNC be doing crap like this? THIS is how they're spending our money?

Everyone should email/post to let them know how pissed we are. If you don't believe me, go look at the ad.

When I read this:
"My worry (and my reason for supporting Dean) was that Kerry and the party would run a 2000-quality campaign again, and it looks like my worst fears are coming true. "

I almost puked. What a bunch of lamer shit that is. I bet the guy is a killer Swish artist. :puke:

Sounds like all the "beautiful people" who were envious of the talented art director at the dot bomb I worked at in SF before it was driven into the ground.

Yeah, it could be better. Scarier maybe... I dunno.

46. Where I thought it sucked
Begin with the image of *. It bears no resemblance to the PoS.

Next, *'s hand is pounding the podium like a hummingbirds wings. Slow that down.

And the message is garbled. It begins with exploding deficits and ends with a litany of things * has cut. What do we want? Deficit reduction or program expansion. Those two ideas shouldn't be mixed in the same ad.

I'm saying this as a programmer, absolutely no knowledge of the ad biz, but this thing sucks.

The ad was a joke! I thought everyone was just being too critical...they weren't! Not a single POP about the fact that it was the tax cuts that drove the deficit up. Dumb!

25. The ad contradicts itself...
It starts by complaining about the deficit.

Then it talks about cutting spending.

It seems to me that cutting spending would reduce the deficit. I know these aren't the programs that should be cut, but the logic in the ad doesn't follow. If the debt is ballooning, then Bush isn't reining in spending enough.

Why not focus on the tax cuts instead?

For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction, for every tax-cut another soldier loses this much pay, for every dollar lost for tax-cuts a terrorist gains another victim, for every Bush tax-cut our children will suffer an even more painful tax increase..

42. You are right
The ad does contradict itself.

Both the defecit and the reckless spending cuts are issues that need to be addressed. However, doing them both at the same time wasn't a good idea.

People who want lower defecits want cuts in spending or decreases in taxes - usually at the expense of quality of services.

People who want higher government involvement want higher quality of services - usually at the expense of a higher defecit or higher taxes.

Putting both messages together appeals to no one and makes it look like the DNC does not even get basic economics.

Not a good sign and not a good ad.

Give thema break. It's fine. It's just a stupid flash animation, it's not even a web ad. Chill. The Macker has $25 mil in da' bank and no debt. Do you know that when Clinton was elected the DNC only had debt and no real cash on hand. The Macker has changed all that. This is the first election ever where the DNC starts in da' black.

glad to hear someone kicking Take Back the Media (and calling all symbolmen :) ) to the fore - very flattering!

thanks,

it's time to show the DNC how to do it right.

I'm just a regular person and I don't look at this ad as so bad. It's not GREAT, but it's a flash ad for goodness sake. It's only people like you and I who are going to see it.

The thing that is more worrysome is that the GOP web site is so much better than ours. Lots of links on how and where to donate too.

40. i had hoped DU was wrong about the ad
but i just viewed it ... sadly, i have to agree ... the ad stinks ...

rove builds a campaign calling Kerry a flip-flopper so the DNC goes out and hires a company called the "Chameleon Group" to do the ad for them ... not a good move ... the company describes themselves like this "Like the creatures that change color to fit their environments" ...

the scene where the balloon filled with hot air explodes and the adults who were protesting bush's deficits start crying is beyond horrible ... is that what democrats do when they don't like what the administration does ... we cry ?? why not show democrats taking action to stop the bankrupting of our government ?? why not show that democrats have listened to the American people and understand their priorities ??? but no, we are ineffective whiners ... all we do is carry protest signs and cry when things don't go our way ... that's some great vision of the democratic party the DNC is peddling !!

lose this ad immediately !! make it disappear !!! hire a few DU'ers ... if this ad reflects the quality of people at the top of the DNC, let's just give up now ...

45. Have they responded to ANYONE?
The damn thing is still there nearly a week later. Here's the message I just sent to the DNC.

Dear DNC website administrators:

I am baffled as to why the "$5.2 trillion deficit" Flash animation is still linked from the front page of www.dnc.org. You've been roundly criticized for its amateurish quality, at a time when the Republicans are finally learning to use Internet resources effectively.

I recently donated $20 to the DNC, but it's going to be my last donation until I see concrete evidence that you guys are listening to your constituents. I'm going to be working hard for Kerry and my local Democratic congressional candidate, but at the moment unafilliated organizations like MoveOn.org and Dean's new DemocracyforAmerica.com are doing a better job of getting the message out.
