Obama supporters- stop with the cockiness, it is bad for Obama
Hey everyone, I am new here. :) To start, I am a HUGE Barack Obama fan. I have been through all the tough times, and the best times (which are right now). Although I am new, I have visited this forum very often and have been extremely up to date on the primaries and caucuses.

I am extremely happy with Obama's performance the last 11 primaries and caucuses. I think there is at least a 99% chance that he will be the nominee going by logic.

Now let me make something clear, I am not trying to bash anyone here, I just simply wanted to talk about what I have seen from Obama supporters the last few days and why I believe it may be bad for Obama.

I understand Obama supporters are happy about being in the lead after all these months, but being cocky does not help us out one bit. This thing is not over, and I am shocked that so many are acting like it is.

YES- I have seen the math. You know what else I have seen? Every single opinion poll saying New Hampshire should have ended Clinton's presidential run. After that I have realized never ever to underestimate the Clintons.

Hillary Clinton's campaign is where it is today not because of sexism like so many on here like to say, but because of cockiness. They were inevitable. They could not lose. Who cares about states like Alaska, all they needed were CA, NY, NJ, etc. I believe Obama is winning mainly because his campaign team is so much better.

The point is, cockiness has screwed both candidates over. Obama got screwed over in New Hampshire, and Hillary's entire campaign got screwed over. People in Hew Hampshire figured Obama was inevitable, so it was mainly Hillary supporters who showed up.

People don't like cockiness. It can EASILY, EASILY backfire and cause Hillary to start going up in the polls. Lets pretend we are 20 down in Texas and Ohio. Lets give this thing all we got.

Lets just save the victory party until its over. I have seen this happen too many times.

I have waited an entire year for this moment, but I can and will wait a little while longer to declare victory.

Never underestimate the Clintons. :)

The words 'scorched earth' comes to mind when I think of Bill and Hillary. I am very much an Obama supporter, and I would never underestimate them.

The appear to be obsessed with winning this nomination, at any cost.

On edit, welcome to DU.

Peace:thumbsup:

5. My only point: In addition to the math is the money. Hillary ended Jan.
7.6 million dollars in debt. It will be nearly impossible for her to remain competitive in the big OH/TX markets and beyond.

Obama raised $32 million in Feb. alone.

toes eternally and not take a smidge for granted. Life changes on a dime and we don't want to be caught like hilaryland after Super Tues.

9. i know that but the point is being cocky I believe can only hurt Obama's chance
so I don't see any point in being cocky, thats all.

I don't care what Hillary's odds are. What were her odds in New Hampshire? Its still very possible for her to come back. I rather just hold off on the victory party a couple weeks (or maybe months).

6. What, you're advocating CAUTIOUS optimism, and recommending reasonableness?
What are you REALLY up to? What's your REAL agenda?

(Just thought I'd give you a taste of what to expect in reply to your post, which I liked very much, but some people won't.)

24. You stole "herding cats" from me.
Just kidding, although it might be true. I have a use that is 10 years prior to the reported first use, although I expect that others used it still earlier. I posted details about it here at DU a few weeks ago but am too lazy to try to find that post. That was the first time I have ever posted about it.

BTW I am an Edwards supporter who still has issues with both Clinton and Obama. I might have decided on Obama by now if it were not for that large subset of his supporters who are really rude and obnoxious to everyone else and who are mostly history challenged to the point of being clueless.

28. I mostly live in the real world and don't judge him by the worst of them
Edited on Sat Feb-23-08 12:19 AM by unc70
The civilized discussions of candidates and issues seems to have disappeared about the time that Edwards suspended his campaign. The large Edwards contingent at DU went mostly silent, replaced many of the most-difficult variety of Obama supporters. The noise level at DU seemed to go off the scale then.

Anyway, I take a fairly cynical view of both Clinton and Obama. In Obama's case, I have a problem with the little inconsistencies in his resume, the things that don't quite mesh properly or the timeline that doesn't match up correctly with external events, documents, or the recollections of others. I also dislike that he began his campaign attacking the Baby Boomers and the excesses of the 60's; I took that personally and still do. I trying not to get too down on either Clinton or Obama because I expect to vote for one of them this fall.

BTW is that Isotope Feeny as your mad scientist?

14. I don't think it's cockiness, and none had the delusion that he was inevitable
I've felt since Super Tuesday that he this was his race to lose, and even posted a thread as such, urging my fellow Obama backers, to now just give up on DU in the usual sense, put a shitload of DUers on ignore, and get our shit together and look forward. I still feel that way. It's time to look forward and bring it home.

The writing on the wall is now in font 48 letters, so it's not cockiness but statement of fact. If some don't want that, or even the obnoxious shit, then do what I suggested in the post I referenced above: put me and whoever else on ignore.

16. well in order to move forward to the GE...
we first need to WIN, as in clearly pull ahead of Hillary to the point where she needs to give up. I want to see this thing end March 4. I don't want it going all the way to the convention. The more Hillary attacks, the more ammo Republicans have for the GE.

As I said, acting like this thing is over will not help Obama out one bit. If anything, it will hurt him.

23. I find it interesting...
whenever anyone likes to group people together and label them with a choice word. I for one do not believe I am cocky. Maybe angry. I don't like it when there is such a lack of respect, and such harsh vitriol used against someone for what they think. I know the street goes both ways, but if you step on a tiger's tail it may bite off your head.
