One Texas vote for Obama
Edited on Fri Feb-22-08 06:02 PM by sniffa
On Super-Tuesday, I sent out a mass email to a group of guys I used to play poker with for years telling them all to go out and vote... "except for you Todd, you have to wait until April. JT, as an ex-pat, your voting starts today. And Dave, since you're in Iraq, I don't really know when or how you vote.

There were a bunch of reply-alls back and forth (as we used to do back in the day when we actually used to gather once a week for a night of cards and beer) and eventually, Dave replied.

He laid out some vitriol for McCain, Romney, and Clinton before announcing that he's voting in the Texas primary for Obama.

So Sargent (He's higher rank now, but I don't keep up with that stuff) Dave is sending in his ballot from Iraq, for Obama. It's nice to see the boots on the ground support him.

The weird thing about this, is I was initially shocked that he was voting in Texas. I knew he moved to Texas but totally forgot since he pretty much hasn't been there in god knows how long.

2. this is nothing short of amazing, I'm hearing similar stories here

in NC. Just saw a poll today that has Obama beating Hillary by double digits here. Two Repub co-workers informed me recently that they support Obama, and are now sporting their Obama '08 bumperstickers. Something is happening, and although "CHANGE" has been ridiculed as just a word by some, people are paying attention, and they see something new and hopeful about the future. I ask you, WHAT'S WRONG WITH THAT?

On a side note, I think it was here that I read that Obama & Ron Paul have been the biggest recipients of military donations. GOBAMA!

3. Here in Ohio
My brother, long time Republican, last year he was up to see me we fought like mad over politics and he told family I was an out of control liberal. Well, couple of weeks ago he told my sister that he is voting for Obama. You could have knocked me over with a feather. I think bush has finally driven off most of the Republicans who are thinking at all. Fine with me. Especially since will be sharing a condo with him for a week in October. In addition my sister and broher-in-law are changing from R to Dem. this primary, they voted for McCain in 2000 primary but now are voting for Obama.

5. I'm curious too
We should go out with him again - it's been too long.

Note to everyone else: Mr Dave is a different Dave than Sargent Dave (or Bilko as we affectionately call him), but is also part of my former poker posse.

From his responses, I took it he was deciding between Obama and McCain.

7. It depends
The official rule, is dealer's choice of game. There are some standard games that have wilds, and once in a blue moon, someone calls a wild.

Near the end (last year to year and a half) our poker games lurched toward the tv poker, and we mainly played rounds of no-limit hold-em with appropriate blinds for our game (small - $1, big - $2). Even though the dealer's choice kinda went to the sidelines as we moved to hold-em, we still had our end of the night games of chance, with big pay offs to allow the night's losers to have a chance at catching up.. or losing more.

14. I hope so very much
With Dave, I have a bit of a disconnect. One, I feel that he'll never be a casualty; and two, he's mostly in a tank, which I like to fool myself into thinking he's safer because of that.

I'm not sure where he is now, but when he first got there, he was in Anbar and was there for a long time. He was pretty active online when he first got there (afternoonish our time) and had quite a few spurts for a while (including a few webcam shows). He hasn't been online much in about 3-4 months, so I was stunned that he not only replied to my email, but replied in probably under 12 hours.
