I love Hillary Clinton.
Edited on Fri Feb-22-08 02:20 PM by Maddy McCall
No matter how she fares in this thing, I love her for hanging in and keeping progressive topics in the forefront--for making the American public pay attention to this primary season.

Whether she withdraws or takes it to the convention, I'll never be ashamed of my support for her candidacy.

She is a great woman, a great American, and I am proud to support her.

EDIT TO ADD: Please don't take the trolls' bait in this thread. Let's keep it positive. If they try to disrupt, please alert.

1. You have no reason to be ashamed
She was a good candidate and might have won any other year, but just ran into a once-in-a-lifetime kind of candidate in Obama. This won't be the end of her career.

4. That sort of depends on how she acts if she loses Texas and Ohio.
Edited on Fri Feb-22-08 02:17 PM by GarbagemanLB
I respect her years of service to this country and her vision and drive to help Americans, and it would be a shame for her to throw it away on a bloody fight for delegates if she does poorly in those two states.

7. Beautiful. This is not a game. The winner isn't always right and those who
don't win aren't "losers" as long as they contributed to the debate and discourse.
Hillary is the real deal and will work for this country no matter her role.

Oh, and for any haters that are gearing up to shit on this .... Aunt Esther AND Chi-Chi will get your ass!

18. "Keeping progressive topics in the forefront"
Has she really been doing that? I could sworn it was Edwards who did that. Edwards who came out with a specific health care proposal in March of 2007. Edwards who apologized for his IWR vote way back and promised to end the war when Hillary was still waffling. Edwards who promised to fight for the poor and working class - themes that Hillary later adopted as a facade without any specific proposals to back them up.

Seriesly, I don't know why a long-time DUer such as yourself would support Hillary except for the reason that Obama is even worse.

67. Well I can't argue with that logic
the only thing missing is either Rodeodance or Monkeyfunk telling me to "go poop on another thread".

Is that your best defense? You can't tell me how great your candidate really is, and how misinformed I am? You can't provide a link to your (or somebody else's journal) where her progressive creds have been definitively demonstrated?

Come on. Maddy tried to goto Camp Casey before her car broke down. What was Hillary doing at the time? Supporting Cindy? Or supporting Bush? Or trying to waffle somewhere in the middle? And now she's pro-Hillary? Not just anti-Obama, which would be understandable, but pro-Hillary? Color me confused, which is kind of a light green shade :eyes:

74. I don't have that context
but sometimes people do try to joke with those they've exchanged harsh words with. I am naive enough to think that many extreme statements like that are meant as jokes or sarcasm and are often misunderstood. At least it has happened to me. Maybe because I am just not very funny. But to me the title of that post was too ridiculous to be taken seriously.

But there are DUers, even myself in the eyes of others, who say very ridiculous things that they mean seriously.

130. I'm 66. Believe me, you don't want to know what I went
through in the fifties and sixties. Hillary is a dream come true. Women have gone through a lot, and this continues to some extent. The problem is that most young and middle aged women have no idea how far we've come, having never experienced what came before; so, all things considered, they have not been compelled to vote for the female candidate because she's female, even though it's a given that having a female President would mean a lot to the women and girls of America. It's hard for us older women to sit by and not want to yell at the top of our lungs:

"THIS IS OUR BEST CHANCE. SHE'S A FREAKIN' HOMERUN!"

I believe her brilliance and experience took her far; but, I know a lot of people think she would not have been the good candidate she is without name recognition, and I believe that is a valid point.

When you put all of that together and realize what it took for a woman to be in the forefront of this election, you realize this is our time, and, if not now, it is unlikely that we will have another viable female candidate in the near future.

We've got some water oaks down on the creek that were loosened by Kat. Those finally fell.

Yeah, we need more positivity in this forum. I'm with you...I held out hope for Clark. Then went to Edwards when it became evident that Clark wasn't jumping in. Then Clark endorsed Hillary...and I started watching her...and liked what she was saying.

80. She has definitely grown on me
I was never a Hillary hater, though I was/am decidely in the Edwards camp. I felt fairly neutral about both Clinton and Obama, at times disliking both, but have recently come to respect and like her the more I see of her.

I moved to the actively pro-Clinton camp a couple of weeks after Edwards dropped out, because without him in the race, the crap she has had to endure for being a strong, liberal woman who has dared to take an active role in politics has really come to the fore.

I think at this point I'm actually afraid to say I love a candidate. It seems to be the death knell for their campaigns. x(

But do you see how easily someone could say you sound like a cultist, as you said Obama supporters were the other day? Does that help put it in some kind of perspective at all? When I see people called cultists for being really into their candidate of choice it's sad, especially coming from people who act the exact same way, only for a different person. I've never once in my life (now 40!) seen a politician where there wasn't an element of a cult of personality, so to single any one group out is hypocritical, and lazy thinking to be honest (something I know a lot about, let me tell ya!)

I respect that you've made your choice, you're firm in it, and I assume you did your own research in making that choice. I don't get why some people get upset at people for not choosing the same person, to the point where they truly look down their noses at people they probably share 90% of their values with.

I don't like Hillary as a candidate and don't want her to win. But I have no problem with people like yourself liking her as much as you do. It's a good thing, and I wish that just once in my life I felt that towards a politician. Hell, the only President in my life I truly have respect for is Jimmy Carter.

The progressive policies part of your post is a stretch for me, but that's another post for another occasion. :)

105. She's an amazing person and has acheived so much, and really done a lot of good.
I would have gladly voted for Clinton in the GE, but like a poster above stated, she was unlucky enough to run against a "once-in-a-lifetime" candidate like Obama.

I sincerely hope several Dem women run for prez in 2012 who can absolutely wipe the floor with their opponents; women who are even stronger and can kick even more ass than Hillary. I hope that what she's done this year has opened the door for women in the political process. I hope that in my lifetime, there'll be a primary where we have the field filled with ALL women, or maybe a few token men. It's long overdue.

I'm sorry for Hillary that she couldn't overcome the force of Obama's popularity surge, and I feel sorry for her supporters who made it all this way and are starting to feel the disappointment.

119. Clinton made a strong showing, and still might be able to pull it out.
Unfortunately, she's running on the memories of the 90's, which carry a negative resonance for many; not everyone loved the Clintons, unfortunately (bringing up NAFTA in this economy is especially dissonant). Her campaign could have been managed better, and her IWR vote continued to haunt her in an election cycle where the spectre of the disaster that is the Iraq war hung everpresent.

None of these checks in the minus column have anything to do with her gender, and they all were instrumental in her not being able to do even better than she did. Had she been a male, these would still be reasons for many not to vote for her.

More women will step forward and make history. Clinton was simply hamstringed by her OWN history here. If more women don't run for president after this, it will be down to their own timidity and not because the voters have spoken and demanded females be banished from the process, because they haven't.

I apologize that many on DU have had their experiences tainted by the ugliness on this board, and I apologize if I contributed in any way to the painful atmosphere. But I predicated my Obama support on his strength as a candidate, not on Hillary-hatred. I would have voted for her had she gotten the nod. In any event, I don't think Clinton's eventual defeat will suddenly turn the clocks back to 1953 - I beleive the opposite will be true. At least, I HOPE the opposite will be true.

118. It wasn't sexism that kept Clinton from victory.
There IS systemic sexism, even unconscious sexism in America - that's undeniable. The voters simply liked the black guy more this year.

Clinton's deafeat (well, we don't know she's been defeated yet - we'll see) will not keep women from running for president. Clinton acheived something fantastic and made real inroads into the national consciousness as a powerful female. It's no longer an alien concept for a woman to run for the highest office - the more she was in the spotlight, the more people who'd otherwise be critical of her run based on her gender became inured to it. I think that after this year, it will seem natural for more women (and minorities) to throw their hats in the ring.

The circumstances that are leading to her defeat this year are specific to this election cycle; it was both a fortuitous time for a strong, experienced woman to come forward and bitter luck that an African-American man, who ran on a campaign framed on "hope" and against experience, was able to affect the consciousness of the nation as a whole.

124. I think it is an absolute disgrace how the democratic party has treated Hillary Clinton...
I am just about donewith politics. The fact that the party that I have been associated with for all of my adult voting life has treated this woman the way they have is an absolute disgrace and I will be leaving the party after this campaign. I will not vote for Barck Obama and I will do everything I can to discourage others from doing so. I have a special hatred for Ted Kennedy and his actions in this campaign. I consider his support for Obama another rape of a woman by the Kennedy family. He did not have to say a thing until this started to play out and the fact that his home state went overwhelmingly for Hillary speaks volumes about his influence.
Hillary Clinton is a good woman who has been smeard by the right wing press for over 16 years to the point that even now supposed left wing radio hosts are demeaning her for what ...for her policies? I doubt it, is more for ratings. They will slash and burn her so they can get the monlithic Obamanables to listen to their stupid radio shows. They to are part of the crime that has been commited against Hillary. She has been smeard and accused of everything from murder to I would suspect someone has accused her off molesting Chelsea....I haven't heard this but I am sure you can find some winge nutters from the left and right who believer this. Shame on the Democratic party and shame on the media for once again proving that America hates women above everything else!

If they feel this passionate about their hatred for war criminal bush and the state of the country where were they when they could have made a difference? Of course some were to young to vote but that is a small percentage compared to the Obananables that seem to be coming out of the wordwork these days. Shame on them for not working to elect John Kerry shame on them for every soldier who has been killed in Iraq since Jan 20 2005.
