ABC/WP POLL: Clinton Up in Ohio, Dead Heat in Texas
Edited on Thu Feb-21-08 05:14 PM by RamboLiberal
Trailing in perceived electability, Hillary Clinton is running in a dead heat with Barack Obama in the Texas Democratic primary and holds a single-digit lead in Ohio, lifted there by lunch-bucket voters and party regulars.

-----

Differing demographic and political profiles in Texas and Ohio change pieces of the puzzle — but both contests look close, with more than enough moveable voters to tip the balance either way.

With about two weeks until the primary, this ABC News/Washington Post poll finds a 48-47 percent Clinton-Obama race among likely voters in Texas, and 50-43 percent in Ohio.

A quarter in Texas, and a third in Ohio, say they could change their minds or are undecided.

-----

Obama beats Clinton in the perception that he's got the best chance of winning in November by 47-36 percent in Texas and 48-37 percent in Ohio.

He's due here this weekend -- after a stop in Akron on Saturday, he'll be on his way to Cinci and Dayton.

I saw him here in SF in a crowd of 5-6K. I can hardly imagine the chaos of a 20,000 person audience!

23. Obama could easily get more delegates than Hillary from TX
because of their rules and the greater turnout in African-American districts in the '04 and '06 elections.

9. What's wrong with Texas, don't they want to matter?
Edited on Thu Feb-21-08 05:19 PM by Kristi1696
I really wish that somebody would make a "United States that Matter" map like the "United States of Canada" map we saw back in 2004.

Anybody here have the requisite graphics skills?

26. It's good to remember that most of us who obsess over politics
have been "decided" on our candidate for a long time (or at least had a back-up if our #1 dropped out), but many of these voters are just starting to think about this. It's entering their radar screens that there is a better alternative to Hillary "Name Recognition" Clinton.

25. Hillary's 59-36 lead among Hispanics isn't enough ... she needs 62.5%
of the vote in the 4-delegate Rio Grande Valley districts to avoid a 2-2 delegate split with Obama. And of course some non-Hispanics will vote even in those districts, so she'd need (I guess) about 68-70% support among Hispanics to feel good about getting a 3-1 delegate split in those districts.

30. She can't just win by a small margin in Texas. She has to win big or it's over.
If they basically split the delegates in Texas there is no way she can come back.

Bye, bye Hillary.

Obama's organization alone will make up seven points in Ohio. Texas is already ours.

... that the voters throughout the country have figured out that Obama is the way to victory in November before it was too late and we were stuck with a losing ticket for the general.
