More polling proof Obama gives us much better chance of winning general.
Obama beats McCain, 47% to 40%, while Clinton loses, astonishingly, 38% to 50%! This is all respects should be a Democratic year. Only unless we nominate our, by far, most unelectable candidate do we lose.

1. These polls are meaningless - Obama is peaking
The media and the country are incredibly fickle, and Obama is not going to be able to ride this wave of enthusiasm all the way.

Hillary may not be as pretty as Obama, but she's been there through thick and thin, plus she's been thoroughly vetted.

The GOP has thrown everything possible at Hillary. Who knows what they're saving for Obama (Rezko, youtube accuser, or something we have never heard of).

Bottom line: vote with your head, and don't get swept up by pretty words from someone who has never been in a real fight before.

Hillary deserves our support.

2. Clinton consistently has the highest negatives in every poll.
She always has negatives around 48%! How can you possibly win a general election that way? Perhaps is they nominated Mitt, who is generally disliked as well, but not a fairly popular guy like McCain. These polls have consistently shows that she's our worst general election candidate. It's not new.

3. What real fight has Hillary been in?

She didn't face any serious opposition for her senate runs.
The only serious fight both have been involved in is this primary, and Obama has shown that he has what it takes to win.

7. We're nine months out from the GE. The right wing smear machine hasn't even...
begun its work in earnest.

If you think that the Clintons' very minor criticism is all he'll face, you're quite wrong.

Those poll numbers will change as the election gets closer. Up/down, down/up.

It's faulty logic to think that what holds today will hold nine months from now.

8. Very true, but the polls have consistently shown her to have the highest
negatives, usually around 48%. That is very close to impossible to overcome, unless the GOP nominee is equally divisive, but McCain is not. He is their most electable candidate, and the only one who even gives them a shot this year.

9. So? The dynamics will change when nominees are selected...
as we move into GE season.

if he becomes President, the status of African Americans, generally, will be elevated by an order of magnitude, in a way that might be virtually impossible by any other means. And like it or not, everyone would, in fact, benefit. It is certainly long overdue. And if, like a good Democrat, he were to significantly improve the lives of Americans, it must significantly countervail against the memory of slavery. Of course, though racism is universal, so is goodness and a sense of shame among most people, so it would reflect, I think, very well on Americans, in the eyes of the rest of the world.

Of course, the hatred of racists won't just disappear, but they will never again feel as secure in their hatred as they do now, (even though progess was made during the civil rights movement). I also think it would do wonders for our own people of African and West Indian extraction, over here in the UK.

The worry is though, that without his popularity being lawfully reflected in the Presidential election (a big ask, in view of your now traditional electoral charade) and a cleansing of the Augean stable of the far right and its military-industrial-media complex, it's possible that even if he does push for real and significant reforms, nevertheless, his endeavours may be thwarted on Capitol Hill, or he could have an accident with an extremely prejudicial projectile. Let's hope not.
