"It's about picking a president who relies not just on words...,
"It's about picking a president who relies not just on words,
but on work, hard work, to get America back to work."
--Hillary in Ohio

"....on work, hard work......"

I wish I could remember which stereotype this is supposed to play to. Is it the lazy Asian? No. Hmmmm. Must be the lazy Protestant. No, no, that's not it either. Lazy Catholic? Lazy Jew? Lazy woman? Lazy rich person? Lazy white guy? No. No. No. No. No.

What could it be?

1. Oh, I don't buy that. I've got my differences with Hillary, but this isn't a race-based attack.
She's just trying to do the best she can with the resources she has. Obama is a great speaker, she is only an adequate one, so the natural contrast is to pretend that Obama is "all words" and she is "all action".

2. all action, sure. that isn't the word she chose, though, and don't think it's by accident.

6. I guess I prefer to give her the benefit of the doubt. Keep that powder dry for when it's needed.

There are definitely going to be more race-based attacks on Obama down the road, especially in the negative ads Republican 527s run. I don't want to jump on every theoretical race-based link because I want it to mean something when we call out the big ones. But I get your point.

8. You might be right. But, then again... "hard work"?
Barack doesn't work hard, because he's....what? Tall?

7. I have thought for a long time that her "hard work" riff was a total insult,
because it was basically saying that Obama does not or would not work hard. I never saw it as racist, but it certainly did remind me of Bush* and how he is constantly telling us how hard his job is. I don't want to ever again hear about "hard work" again, because of Bush's* use of it as an excuse.
