As we go on into this election, let us remember, the presidency is not a prize
Edited on Wed Feb-20-08 03:36 AM by Levgreee
It is a duty, it is a sacrifice. I've heard it said that anyone who WANTS to be president is a bit off their rocker/knocker, and I think there may be truth to that.

So while it may be disappointing to Hillary and her supporters, or to Obama and his supporters if Hillary does come back, in certain senses the winner is the one who loses the most. Four years of the highest stress and pressure, of hours upon hours of work, and of losing much of the ability to live a private life.

It's not a trophy, and the losing candidate may end up better off, depending on what happens in the next 4 years.

8. Then why do people treat it like American Idol or Ebay.
I have read all the carping, and yelling, and whining about the candidates, and when Edwards left the race, all talk of issues left. It is disgusting, and a real turn off to people who actually care about this country.

Neither Obama or Clinton will do anything to change what has happened in this country, and neither will their supporters. It doesn't seem like they care about this country, only about who wins. Hell, we can't even get them to tell us what either of them stand for, they give us links and tell us to do the work. Now, with the "lesser" of the candidates supporters, if you asked them ANYTHING about their candidate, they could not only tell you what that was, but they could do it without looking it up. And, if you wanted a link, they would go and find it for you. THAT'S a supporter, and that's what a great candidate inspires.

It is obscene how much money has been spent on this "primary election". EVERY single one of them should have taken public financing for the primary, so that every one of them started out with the same exact amount of money. Then and only then would we have seen who was the best at leadership. Now, the nomination is basically an auction. Who can get the most people to bid on this fine person now being showcased on Ebay? Maybe it was better for the decision to be made in backrooms, we certainly had better candidates then.

9. Could've fooled me it's not, the way it's treated.
Soccer hooligans aren't half so bloodthirsty as what I've seen inn GDP over the past couple of months.

But hey, it's done, and as mtnsnake said in his thread, it's something of a relief.

At least nobody's going to blame me for supporting the guy who's going to take a world of shit between now and November. I am dog-tired from being blamed for losing the last four elections just for being queer.

Damn, you know, the more I think about it, it really is a relief. I'm off the hook as much as Hillary is. All her supporters are.
