Hillary Clinton shot a duck once
<snip>

"In an amazing coincidence just days before another crucial Democratic primary, Sen. Hillary Clinton, campaigning in Wisconsin -- where thousands build their annual vacations around deer-hunting season -- has let it slip that she went hunting once.

"I know you don't believe it," she told an enthusiastic audience at Kenosha's Brat Stop over the weekend, "but it's actually true. My father taught me to shoot 100 years ago."

According to The Times' Nicholas Riccardi, who was there, she then launched into an explanation of how school shootings can be stopped without infringing on gun owners' rights. She declined to elaborate on her hunting career later except to say that she had nailed a duck.

But anyway here's a photo of another Clinton holding a dead duck like the one his wife recalls shooting down."

6. Does anybody else find it weird that you have to prove you can kill something to run for president?
She might be the only person who'd look more out of place than John Kerry out in the woods.

9. Kerry was photographed holding a shotgun in an unsafe manner

(warning: that may well be hosted on some vile RW site; I just picked the first hit from the Google image search.)

That in combination with some of the dumber anti-gun-rights legislation he's championed reinforced the stereotype that Democrats don't know jack about guns but insist on trying to ban them.

And, frankly, someone with his combat experience should have known better than to handle a gun like that. Your finger is over the trigger when you are siting in to fire, and at no other time.

16. Yikes.
Stuff like that pains me- he's not looking where he's aiming either.

My Dad has a lot of guns, so I can remember gun safety lessons starting when I was two or three, out in the back yard with a cap gun. I swear, I was the only kid in America with cap guns I wasn't allowed to point at anybody.

A high school friend of mine was killed in an accidental shooting (by his own best friend, the poor boy) so I'm really livid about people who have guns and can't be bothered to model proper care.

14. It's a misguided attempt to mitigate the damage we've caused ourselves from gun control
And the problem is, to try to bolster their standing with gun-owners, they go hunting.

But only 15% or so of gun-owners hunt. Most gun owners target shoot.

A candidate going to a target range and shooting some would be good. Hunting is not the only, nor even the most common, use for guns.

18. And city people dressed up like Elmer Fudd don't fool anybody.
It's the equivalent of putting DUBs on the campaign bus thinking it'll help win over urban voters. Obvious, phony pandering doesn't win votes, it just makes you look like a jackass.

As they did when Mike Huckabee shot a bird and proclaimed himself an outdoorsman.

12. Mmm, dead duck.
I can't imagine the patrons of the Brat Stop getting enthusiastic for anything as comparatively light and low-fat as duck.

I ate there many times on my way to Johnson Wax...not the nice Brat Stop they have now, but the old, dark one where you were grateful you couldn't see what was on your plate. Old Kenoshans know what I'm talkin' bout.

20. Like all of our candidates except Richardson...
...he's going to have a guns problem.

Obama is on record wanting to ban civilian ownership of semi-automatic firearms.

Calling this a "non-starter" on the national stage doesn't even begin to address how bad an idea it is. Either he'll need to find a way to safely backpedal (he's never made it a huge issue like Kucinich did, even though his position is essentially the same as Kucinich's, or even slightly more prohibitionist), hope it doesn't get brought up (McCain has an "F" rating from the NRA too and may not want the talk to go there), or just grit his teeth and take the hit, which could be severe if he sticks with his "ban semi-autos" plan.

This, frankly, is the one big weakness I see for him as a candidate; fortunately McCain is the Republican in the worst position to exploit it.

21. He's not for animal rights.
He's for not treating the animals like complete shit while exploiting them for profit. Animal welfare, not animal rights. Rights would be working toward not exploiting animals at all, a totally different mindset. The only candidate with a view that could be described as supportive of animal rights is Kucinich.

Unfortunately, there's so little discussion in this country about the treatment of animals, hardly anybody in the general public realizes there is a difference.

22. I hit squirrel with my car once
I didn't die right away. I saw it flipping in the road behind me and I went back to see if I could help (fix?) it. It was a mess. A horrible and sad mess. I got in my car and I deliberately ran its head over. It's the only animal I've ever killed intentionally.

So, does that qualify me to run for president one day?

27. Oh my gosh
you mean to tell me Hillary killed a duck? Did she eat it or was it just for "sport"? How cruel. What else has she shot? In the words of Bill Maher, "I kid, I kid". Did I attribute that quote correctly? I don't want to plagiarize dear Bill. Because, ya know, I'm posting on the strength of my "words" and I wouldn't want to mislead anyone into thinking I actually created that phrase, or the English language for that matter.
