Clinton campaign opens up shop in South Austin
Former gubernatorial candidate Garry Mauro said he was surprised by the turnout of volunteers, many of whom were fixated on a "how-to-caucus" presentation in the 15,000-square-foot warehouse off Ben White and I-35 that formerly served as Texas campaign headquarters for the Kinky Friedman for Governor campaign of two years ago.

-snip-

Mauro said Obama has yet to win a big state, and he suggested the Illinois senator's Congress Avenue headquarters was something of an extravagant expense, indicative of the kind of voters Obama appeals to.

"We're Dunkin' Donuts Democrats," he said.

Mauro, who has firsthand knowledge of how difficult it can be for Democrats to win in Texas, said with Hillary at the top of the ticket, the state will once again be competitive in the general election.

7. What exactly does that mean? Are you a Texan? There are
very few latte liberals here. Most of the latte folks I know are repukes. In case you plan on having some type of Hillary moment over my question, you need to know that I am an Edwards supporter and a Texas precinct chair who is having a great deal of trouble deciding not to go ahead and still vote and caucus for Edwards. I do not favor either of the two left over candidates. I think I will probably go undecided.

11. The person in the article when talking about Obama's t office said "we're duncan Donut dems"
That goes back to this theme that Obama's people are the latte Liberals. The Starbucks people, while Hillary's people go to Duncan Donuts and are hardworders.

13. I think he means that Obama's campaign are *not* comprised of "latte liberals."
And it was very disingenuous to suggest otherwise. It's not just wealthy people who are supporting Obama.

21. This liberal hates coffee and doesn't eat donuts. Maybe
that is what is making me undecided. Herbal tea, anyone?

27. I'm a liberal who drinks his own
dark roast, strong and black. Though if I have to get coffee, it's usually Starbucks, as it's closer to my coffee, and occasionally I do enjoy Cafe Mocha. :9

I used to be a DnD person growing up (as were my parents) but I had to stop once I stopped drinking my coffee with 6 sugars and 3 creams.

2. Who's the Dunkin Donuts Democrat?

Democratic presidential hopeful Illinois Senator Barack Obama (R) places an order at Dunkin Donuts alongside Washington, DC Mayor Adrian Fenty (C) on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, February 12, 2008. Virginia, Maryland and Washington, DC, hold their primaries today.

14. No. He's had his ass beaten like a rented mule here.
And Hillary couldn't win Texas in the general if Republicans ran Duncan Hunter.

8. Gary Mauro can kiss my ass
I begged....begged for his campaign to spend a little time and money in the Panhandle. SOL. We didn't "matter" because it was repub country. I told them: "Democrats don't even know you exist up here. Where is our love?"

Yesterday, Bill Clinton came to Amarillo and spoke to an overflow crowd of Democrats. Suddenly we "matter". Yee(fucking)haw.

9. With Hillary at the top of the ticket, the state will once again be competitive...
in the general election?

 Are these people delusional? She is HATED, HATED in most of Texas. These people would LOVE to vote for Insane McCain over Clinton. This is only a matter of who mobilizes their base more.

Oh, and I just "loved" this part:

Mauro said Obama has yet to win a big state, and he suggested the Illinois senator's Congress Avenue headquarters was something of an extravagant expense, indicative of the kind of voters Obama appeals to.

Sounds like Mauro had a nice tall glass of HATERADE. If you read the beginning of the article, it says that the Clinton HQ are in a warehouse. Congress Ave. is a nice, easily accessible location near the capitol and I think it is a great spot for the Obama HQ.

P.S. Illinois is a big state. But we all know that it doesn't count.

Pretty soon Texas won't be counting either.

19. I can see how they are lying to Hillary... about her chances, about finances.
But I really don't see how she can believe this $hit.

A good portion of the backing to dredge up Clinton scandals came straight from Texas oil & gas honchos. To think she could ever win Texas in a general election is beyond absurd.

With her advisers giving this sort of advice, it's no wonder she's losing.

He was Clinton's campaign guy in '92 here in Texas.

Literally no one gives a shit what Garry Mauro thinks.

Edited on Sun Feb-17-08 10:52 PM by smalll
 And I see already that's getting under the skin of various Obamatrons. It's not over yet, by a long shot. Hillary won't let some hopped-up little crypto-caesarist Axelrod puppet foist himself upon the party on the strength of Republicans, "independents" and kids who've never voted before, (mostly voting in all these goddamn caucuses we're having this year in Hither Montidaho and North Dakutah.)

Dunkin Donuts Democrats! -- Stick that in your iPods and smoke it!

That buffoon who didn't get 31% of the vote in his campaign for governor in 1998?

You sure know how to pick 'em Hillary.
