Signed by Bill Clinton on September 21, 1996 - please note the date. Like the hideous Welfare Reform Act, Clinton signed DOMA to tack back to the center prior to the 1996 election - freely throwing GLBT Americans under the bus for his political fortunes.
Who was Bill Clinton 'defending' marriage against? Why, me! Little ol' gay me. Nice of him to return the compliment after I worked for him in 1992 and donated a considerable sum of money to his campaign. Nice of him, too, to advise John Kerry to again sacrifice me at the gay marriage altar in 2004. What a friend! I can't wait for him to advise President HRC on gay issues! He's been so good!
Look, neither candidate is sterling in this area. Disagree with McClurkin - I certainly do. But to defend the Clinton record as something a thousand times better is simply ridiculous.
