Press release:

March  12,  2004

For Immediate Release
Washington, DC –

In response to the false charges made in Bush’s latest round of negative television ads, the Kerry campaign released a new ad exposing Bush’s growing credibility gap.

The 30-second spot discusses how yet again the President is misleading the American people, except this time on John Kerry’s record.  The ad sets the record straight about Kerry’s plan to cut taxes for middle class Americans, protect American jobs, get health care costs under control and cut the deficit to put the nation back on track.  The ad will run in 16 states, including: Maine, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Iowa, New Mexico, Oregon, Wisconsin, Florida, Minnesota, Missouri, New Hampshire, Nevada, West Virginia, Arizona, Arkansas, and Ohio.

“We are determined to make this campaign about real issues facing Americans, like making health care affordable, improving education and getting our economy back on track,” said Kerry Campaign Manager, Mary Beth Cahill.  “But when the Bush Campaign misrepresents John Kerry’s record or his plans for the future, we will not hesitate to set the record straight.”

Text of Ad:

Announcer: Once again, George Bush is misleading America. John Kerry has never called for a $900 billion dollar tax increase… He wants to cut taxes for the middle class. Doesn’t America deserve more from its president than misleading negative ads?

John Kerry will crack down on the export of American jobs…get health care costs under control…and cut the deficit.

John Kerry:  I’m John Kerry and I approved this message because we need to do what’s right for America’s economy.

Announcer: John Kerry. A new direction for America.

The ad can be viewed by going to www.johnkerry.com .

3. I think it's really good
I hope I'm being objective. But I thought it was perfect. Knocked Bush's negative ad and then gave people hope for a better future. Now we have to pay to run it!!

8. It's time we finally learned
To not take what's thrown at us and "turn the other cheek." Let the Rethugs know we're angry and we're willing to defend when need be and fight back when it's right.

Kerry Ad Says Bush 'Misleading America'

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A53249-2004Mar12.html

By LIZ SIDOTI
The Associated Press
Friday, March 12, 2004; 12:44 PM

WASHINGTON - Democrat John Kerry, with far less money and advertising reach, countered President Bush's negative ad with one of his own Friday, accusing the president of "misleading America."

The ad, which will air for at least a week beginning Saturday in fewer states and fewer media markets than Bush's spots, rebuts the president's claim that Kerry has proposed a $900 billion tax increase. Kerry's ad asks: "Doesn't America deserve more from its president than misleading negative ads?"

Bush is entering his second week flooding most media markets in 18 competitive states in a multimillion-dollar advertising onslaught. He unveiled the first negative television ads of the general election campaign Thursday, calling Kerry "wrong on taxes" and "wrong on defense," characterizations that prompted the Democrat to respond.

The attacks on the air are unusual eight months from the Nov. 2 election and indicate just how ugly the campaign could get.

19. Yes, but Bush's ads were also shown and will be running in 18 states!
John Kerry does not have unlimited funds like Bush to match this ad buy, but he is going to put the ad up in crucial swing states.

This is a crucial time when the candidates attempt to paint a picture of their opponents. We cannot afford to let Bush's deceitful ad which begins airing in 18 states today, go unanswered.

20. I kicked in. I didn't mean my comment to be an argument against
contributing, nor did I mean to imply that Kerry doesn't need to make an ad buy with this. Actually, I wish they would do an ad buy for the 'Keep our Word' spot, as well...
