There were 6 million women who stepped into manufacturing jobs in munitions plants, and airplane assembly lines to replace the men who were away fighting in WWII.

"Rosie the Riveter is the female icon of Word War II. She is the home-front equivalent of G.I. Joe. She represents any woman defense worker."

4. My grandmother made torpedoes.
Or at least that's what my Dad told me. I was too young to understand at the time, and I thought he was making some kind of joke. Only later did I realize the contribution my grandmother made to the war effort.
