A little election perspective from West Texas, Y'all
Found this poll on the KFDA website. KFDA is located in Amarillo, Texas. Amarillo, Texas is about red a city as they come.

Remember, these are the results BEFORE I posted it here, on DU. I hope none of you vote in this poll unless you live in West Texas. This is the mood in my part of the prairie, at this moment in time:

1. No surprises there, aside from "Undecided" & "Other".
Those two choices are a lot higher than I would've expected.

6. There are a lot of disheartened repubs here
I would imagine that accounts for the "other" votes.

4. Um, no.
Remember, that's ALL voters that can vote in her poll, not just Democrats, and furthermore, it's an online poll.

As a North Texas Democrat, I can tell you that it's in the wind that the Party Establishment is definitely coming down for Hillary. I'm not sure how much that will matter, but they're doing it.

9. The ones that elected TDP Chairman No-Neck at the last state convention.
Edited on Tue Feb-12-08 07:09 PM by crispini
The SDEC, etcetera. They did, in fact, manage to stop us from electing Glen Maxey, but not by much.

Apologies if you like Chairman No-Neck. :hi: Edit: I admit he has done some good things.

10. I have no opinion on him
I just hope you're not trying to imply there's some major Democratic machine here. There isn't.

11. Ah! "Machine," no. "Establishment," yes.
The difference? A "machine" can do something.

Seriously, though, at least in my neck of the woods, there is a well-established coterie of party regulars who know the rules and the ropes and are able to get *some* things done. The 'regulars' were able to get our county party chair thrown out. And, statewide, as I said, they were able to get their choice for TDP chairman elected, instead of the Deaniac candidate. Not all of the people who have been around and know the ropes line up with the 'regulars,' but many do. I think the Valley also has a pretty well established 'establishment' and maybe even a 'machine' -- you'll have to ask someone who lives in the Valley for their take on that.

Now, do I think they will make a difference? Maybe, maybe not. Remember that Texas has a mixed primary-caucus system, so in effect, we have a primary AND a caucus. The Obama folks have been doing well in the caucus states, but the 'regulars' are certainly quite good (at least around here) in knowing the rules and using them to their advantage.

We shall see. This is going to be damn entertaining and hopefully will bring lots of new blood into the party.

12. I'm just glad for the attention up here
The Dems ignore us completely come election time. They don't buy airtime. They hardly campaign at all. Hell, in 2006, I had people that actually, honestly said to me: "There's a Democrat running against Rick Perry?"

Not this year. The Obama campaign is opening and OFFICIAL headquarters in Amarillo. Lubbock too. Yeehaw!

13. Well, the statewide party is perpetually broke.
And the statewide candidates are the same way. It's a big state, it's tough to campaign in.

But, yeah, I agree. Drop by the Texas forum -- I just posted a big excited thread saying exactly the same thing! We get attention! :bounce:

Hope you are planning to attend your precinct convention and try to continue on as a delegate! Have you been to delegate training yet?

14. I can only vote and donate
Wish I could do more but I'm not really the kind of person that ya'll want as a public face representing the Democratic party. I'd just funk up the place. :hi:

16. Ah, that's not true!
I'm completely disreputable, and I'm a precinct chair! :D

At the least, you should stop by your precinct convention the night of the primary and vote for someone else to represent you as a delegate. Only in Texas do we get to legally vote twice!

19. Don't worry about "funking up" the place
The Texas DUers are the founding members of the Drunks Caucus. Let's just say we make our own fun. :)

whoops, did I say that out loud?

A Machine can do things, an Establishment can stop things from being done.

7. Biggest problem with this poll? They do not give you the "n" - that is, how many people have voted.

I really doubt the thing is polluted by outside voting or repetitive voting. As for the vote totals, you got me there. :hi:
