Obama supporters: You may want to call your Super Delegates!
Edited on Mon Feb-11-08 01:36 PM by RiverStone
It felt great to pose the following question to two of my state's Super Delegates:

Since Obama won the state caucuses 68% to 32%, as a Super Delegate, will your vote reflect the will of your constituency?

Both Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell have publicly endorsed Hillary and I spoke with staffers this a.m. from both offices. Patty's staff assistant said: We have already had a number of calls asking the same question, it is too soon (after the caucuses) to know an answer - but I do expect the question to be addressed. And a staff assistant at Maria's office said: I expect we will be getting lots of calls like yours in the upcoming weeks, I think it is a very valid question but I do not have an answer (yet). Maria has not addressed it but I appreciate you asking it. I'll pass it along

Patty Murry (206) 553-5545 ***I was referred to her campaign office (206) 286-9199
Maria Cantwell (206) 220-6400

I am an Obama supporter so the question is very relevant here in Washington. Of course, the same question can be applied to known Obama Super Delegates in states Hillary won. We should all impose upon our SD's the question and concern - that they have an ethical obligation to vote according to the will of the electorate they represent.

Simply put, let the voters decide!

I encourage you to call your SD's office if he/she has endorsed a candidate that's contrary to who the voters chose in your primary or caucus.

Who are the SD's are in your state? Check out this link:

8. wow. I don't know about that strategy
discouraging public input in favor of some insider negotiation? Am I off on that?

10. Ummm. Interesting, but I wonder...
If the request per the memo in your link is universally accepted? Like the poster at KOS said, no global email from Obama camp yet.

However, my call to both senators office was well received, and both staffers reflected the notion that not only did my request make sense - but they were making a note of it and will be adding it to the poll of requests they were already getting - and pass it along to the senator.

I think expressing valid concern's to our representatives is part of the democratic process - and of course, if the Obama camp does not want us to do it (???) I want to respect that too.

Well, I called before hearing this - so I'm still glad I did.

But I do appreciate the link. :hi:

13. I could think of at least one reason why a campaign...
would not want to release an official word regarding this. Probably more if I gave it more thought.

5. Riverstone is right. You've done so much, but this is critical. Call them.
Go see them. Go by their district offices. You must let them know that you

1. Know who they are

2. Know the vote they have

3. Are dedicated to Obama's candidacy

4. Will hold them responsible for their vote, either in their next election or their next DNC race

Go in numbers. Make sure they know you will be watching for their commitment.

These politicians are not going to fall on the swords for Hillary, but you have to let them know that you are expecting them to do the right thing. If they are hostile, start working to replace them immediately. If they can't see light, you have to make them feel the heat.

9. if the super delegates MUST vote for the person the state goes to, then why do we even have them?

12. If they do not vote with their electorate...
They would pay a big political price, and I hope they are keenly aware of that.

As to why we have them? Good question - it has only been since the mid 80's sometime that they were even introduced into the process.

Lets just hope the nominee is established without needed their votes.

And of course, I hope that it would be for Obama.

15. To repeat - the majority rule should apply to ALL SD's...
Obama and Clinton supporters --- both.

As I said in the OP - the rule of following the voters will should apply to both. I see this an an election (or party ) reform issue - regardless of who wins.

And yes, I hope the winner by the vote of the PEOPLE is Obama!

18. What about Obama AND "Clinton" - that's Hillary Clinton
Did you not get?

I'm advocating for a fair representation regardless of which candidate it benefits. And yes, I've declared for Obama, but my OP referred to BOTH.

Do you spend 24/7 on seek and destroy missions? Yea, we get it - you don't like Obama - but insulting folks that do does nothing to promote a point.

and the states that she won.

And 'cause I'm from Washington and I'm glad you asked Murray & Cantwell that question.

They may wait till after our "Beauty Contest" primary though.

19. Thanks Fly...
Appreciate that you noticed the fair part.

Sometimes, folks just read the first few sentences - see a candidate they don't like - and their eyes glaze over and they are hell bent to attack, attack, attack!

I really value different views and always try and read the FULL OP before leaping to a conclusion.

And yes, it will be very interesting to hear from Maria and Patty on the Obama endorsement question down the road.

peace~:)
