Did you watch all of 60 Minutes last night?
I did. I am obviously talking about the interviews with Obama and Clinton. Obama was interviewed by Steve Kroft, who, it appeared to me, played it straight and played it respectfully. Clinton was interviewed by Couric who went instantly to the "some say' crap and appeared to be trying to play 'gotcha' and asking stupid 'how will you feel if you lose' questions.

Am I wrong in my observations?

1. I didn't see it, but IMO,
Katie Couric is about the worst interviewer I've ever seen.

5. I thought Couric (who I can't stand, by the way) was trying to get
something unscripted from Hillary. About the best she got was that she takes vitamins and eats hot peppers. It was a dumb interview.

She's an embarrassment as a supposed "journalist". Did you really expect her to ask ANY probing questions about her candidacy or her position on issues?

That was bullshit.

15. horrible
Kroft went into the 'phenomonon' of Obama's campaign, asking about how its like to be at this level of the game, and why he doesn't talk substance at his rallies (gets in the way of message, of 'vision', and makes his sppeches sound to professorial). It

Couric, on the other hand, seemed to try and humanize Clinton, talk about her Father, and how he was always pushing her harder, about 'what if you don't win'?, 'is there bad blood between you and Obama'? and other fluff.

I still don't understand what it is people like about Couric. My first objective when it comes to journos is the ability to put out a message. The message I got from Couric did not make me feel Couric was serious, nor did it particularly play to Clinton's strengths.

Clinton would be better being on-message and not having to deal with personal questions about tea and vitamins.

16. Katie has aged 20 yrs in the last few
She never should have left her perky morning job. She sucks on CBS. And I think she knows it and is stuck.

They went after both of them in a way to Obama who has won so many this last few days what do they choose to show? Him losing CA...but I will say Obama's answer was great and he didn't look upset that night. I give him points for that.

On Hillary Katie kept asking her questions trying to get her to lose it. But isn't Katie a repub?? But Hillary looked defensive and tired last night. But who wouldn't be with the schedules they both keep.

Overall I liked how relaxed Obama seemed and something I like about him showed which is how polite he is. As he was walking into a rally he pulled back to allow someone to enter first lightly putting his hand on their back not in a pushy way but in a gentle mannerly way. I have seen this before and its something I really like about him.

19. I have to agree with your assessment. I was surprised that Couric
had not asked Hillary what shade of lipstick she was wearing or why she always wore pantsuits by the time the interview was over. Most of it was totally irrelevant.

but fast fowarded over the Clinton part. I was forewarned it was pretty bad so I skipped it. Katie Couric should go back to morning TV programming.

Edited on Mon Feb-11-08 12:43 PM by Bongo Prophet
Hillary did very well to remain calm and personable even while being put through 9 levels of trivia hell.
This shows she can tolerate bullshit well, which is probably a good skill for the job.

The Obama part was much fairer in comparison -and by fair I only mean not stupid - not tough questions, but both were personality type pieces.

I missed out on "why" she cried, hence the media circus, but I hope the reason wasn't as a result of a campaign attack.

32. I will never, for the life of me, understand why Couric is doing serious interviews.
I will never forget how she treated John and Elizabeth Edwards when she interviewed them awhile back. Dreadful, tactless and loaded with that "some people say" crap.

The genius that thought she would make a good anchor and serious reporter should be run out of town on a rail.

34. Couric asked the "How do you do it?" question
i.e., the same question asked earlier in the campaign that elicited HRC's so-called "tearful" response.

I thought that was a pathetically lame and ham-fisted attempt on Couric's part to have her interview make headlines rather than inform her audience.
