Obama loses 1 superdegelate, Clinton gains 1

ATLANTA (AP) -- Shirley Franklin's tenure as president of the National Conference of Democratic Mayors expired at a bad time for presidential hopeful Barack Obama.

The Atlanta mayor stepped down as head of the group just two weeks ago after a year at the helm. She lost not only her title, but her status as a Democratic Party superdelegate, which comes with special privileges to cast a ballot at the party's national convention this summer.

Franklin, an Obama supporter, handed the baton to Providence, R.I. Mayor David Cicilline, who's backing his rival, Hillary Rodham Clinton.

3. today is tough
but i'm hopeful she'll do better than expected in louisiana and washington. Expectations are pretty low so it wouldn't take much for Hillary to outperform.

2. If the super delegates decide it, we need to change our name
from the Democratic Party to the Oligarchic Party.

5. Ugh, superdelegates have always supported the front runner.
I wish people would stop spreading the meme of superdelegates being evil.

7. well, so far they are 65% clinton, and the regular delegates are less than 50% Clinton
If they break to the person who won the most votes, that is fine. But if that is always the case, then why do they exist at all?

15. Because the front runner might be an idiot. But Hillary and Obama are pretty much tied.
So it will be close.

9. Looks like hillary might pull bush and knock obama out......
If Obama wins the popular vote/ most deligates and the super delegates swing it to hillary, no one should vote for her in the general election.

14. That's amazing.
You have to keep your super-delegates alive through the convention.
