ABB PEOPLE RAISE YOUR HANDS IF YOU ARE SICK OF PARTISAN BICKERING
I know it's part and parcel of politics, but we're not getting anywhere folks!

What would happen if you put all of the energy spent on slagging each other and put it towards defeating our common enemy?

GROW THE FUCK UP AND DO YOUR JOB!!!!

9. our job?
i believe we have a human responsibility to get these fuckers out of office at all cost.

don't believe i said anything about "toe the line" or "Sit down. Shut up. Obey."

just looking for some constructive discourse rather than self-destructive whining.

i know, it's way too much to ask.

20. I don't know where you get that impression
The vast majority of DUers consider themselves to be liberal at least.

There are a few people who think that you can only call yourself a liberal if you support one or another particular candidate. I think that is a very poor way of defining who is and who isn't a liberal.

You may be mistaking liberal with extreme leftist. They are not the same thing, although extreme leftists are also welcome on this board as long as they don't act as disruptors.

Since this is Democratic Underground, some people here may not take too well to people who attack the Democratic presidential nominee.

14. Hand raised
I didn't bother with the other two similar posts as they have both disintegrated into (surprise) more bickering. I voted for my candidate in the primaries, he didn't make it, and being ABB from the start, I am more than happy to support our nominee. Can we focus on the big picture now?

15. maybe i need to restate my post.....
Every time I check in to the GD 2004 Primary forum, all I see is people at each others throats. The sad part is that nothing constructive ever comes out of it, unless you count making yourself feel better by ripping on someone else's candidate constructive. If that's you're only reason for being here, I don't even know what to say to you. What the hell is the point? I assume (perhaps naively) that we have all come here because we'd like to work towards a regime change in November.

Fuck it. Go ahead and eat each other. But I'll say it again....What would happen if you put all of the energy spent oon slagging each other and put it towards our common enemy? And let me clarify for the smart asses in the crowd.

This should be enemy #1.....

I'm just sayin'....

17. I would agree
that each of us should be making some type of contribution. Registering voters. Writing letters to the editors of local and national publications. Donating to progressive resources for the campaign. Still, I think that the sincere discussion, including the heated debates, on the d.u. are healthy, and necessary. I just don't think it should ever be mistaken for political action.

21. You should have been here
a few months ago. This is childs play compared to what we had then, even with the very stringent rules.

This whole forum was set apart from the regular GD forum because the candidate wars were getting so insane and making that forum useless for meaningful discussion of other issues.

My guess is that this current arrangement won't be around much longer, and there will be more stringent rules in place for discussing the nominee.

Right now I think the admins are allowing some time for people to get things out of their system before we unify behind the common goal.:)

22. That WAS the point of my thread, eeyore.
After holding my tongue for the past month while letting the venters vent, the last few days have just gotten too ugly.

I wasn't going to sit still while those who support Kerry are now being labeled as "assholes" - sheep - bandwagonjumpers, etc. as if not one of us has a principled bone in our body.

Enough was enough.

That was it. I made my point. I hope some of it sticks.

23. I understand, blm
Like you, I'm frustrated by the name calling and back stabbing that continues. I've not been an ardent supporter of any of the candidates this time around, thought I've certainly got my preferences.

I'm not blaming you in particular, your post and then the post counter to yours really set me off. To be honest, I couldn't get past about the top 1/3 of each thread. It's the tone that I object to. I really have no comment on the actual content, and I have no intention of trying to even understand who said what when and in what order, much less taking a side.

My thread is just a plea that will most certainly fall on completely deaf ears. I'm not looking to squelch discourse, just hoping against hope for a little comraderie if not civility.

May we all rise above the fray long enough to defeat our common enemy.

19. Hand raised,
we have a nominee now. The candidate wars are now absolutely pointless. In fact I felt they were pointless even before we had a nominee, doubly so now.

VP wars don't do any good either. It's fine to express preferences, I do myself, but we have to realize that that decision is entirely in Kerry's hands. Nothing that we say here is likely to influence it. Therefore, beating each other up over that question is counterproductive and only causes more hard feelings.

It's perfectly OK to be disappointed with the outcome. I am, I wish my guy had gotten the nomination. But Kerry is the nominee, and the only thing standing between us and four more years of the worst president in the history of our country. It is time to move on and work on getting Bush out.
