Local Wisconsin Mayors Endorse Obama, Including Milwaukee

Some Milwaukee-area mayors are lining up to support Sen. Barack Obama in the race for the White House.

Mayors Tom Barrett, of Milwaukee; Larry Nelson, of Waukesha, and Gary Becker, of Racine, announced Friday that they would be campaigning for Obama in advance of the Feb. 19 Wisconsin primary.

All three said they support Obama because of his stand on programs that impact their cities.



The mayors of Kenosha, Greenfield and Sheboygan also endorsed Obama, but they were not at Friday's event.

2. Mayors are the probably the most important endorsement cause of their political machines

I think mayors are underestimated. They usually run machines in their cities and can get out the vote. Mayors and governors are the endorsements that matter...congressmen, not so much. I think that's why Hillary did so well in Boston. She had the mayor's backing there.
