Wow! I didn't know that MSNBC suspended David Schuster.
How did I miss this?

NBC News President Steve Capus sent the following statement to Media Matters for America:

NBC NEWS STATEMENT REGARDING CHELSEA CLINTON COMMENT:

On Thursday's "Tucker" on MSNBC, David Shuster, who was serving as guest-host of the program, made a comment about Chelsea Clinton and the Clinton campaign that was irresponsible and inappropriate. Shuster, who apologized this morning on MSNBC and will again this evening, has been suspended from appearing on all NBC News broadcasts, other than to make his apology. He has also extended an apology to the Clinton family. NBC News takes these matters seriously, and offers our sincere regrets to the Clintons for the remarks.

Oh, yeah. I was baking a cheesecake.

I always miss stuff when I bake.

6. His comment was pretty distasteful. Something to the effect of
HRC Pimping Chelsea out for appearances. He never should have said that, it's very degrading.

22. Bingo. Shuster should have taken his lumps like a grown-up
I had a bit of sympathy for the guy when he made the remark -- who among us HASN'T let a distasteful comment slip out every now and then? However, most of us would be mortified once we realized what we had said. Shuster didn't seem at all sorry.

26. I didn't; not even close.
"I didn't think people would take it literally... to the extent that some people might find it pejorative, I apologize"

That's a dodge, not an apology.

11. I agree -- did Bill get on the horn to some big bud at GE?
I guess you can't speak truth to power ... or even its daughter.

What's REALLY a story is the fact that Chelsea has been calling Super Delegates to lobby for her mother. The fact that Shuster DARED to mention that is probably why he REALLY got suspended. Fuck.

12. A lot of pressure from the Clintons brought it about, I'm sure.
Meanwhile I have NEVER heard of an apology from Clinton for her slime against John Kerry.

Maybe I won't be able to push the button for her in the GE.

20. Gotta say, he earned it.
Talking about a candidate "pimping out" her daughter is about as low as it gets. And his apology was underwhelming to say the least -- the typical "I'm sorry if you were offended" bullshit.

I like Shuster and I hope he keeps his job, but I don't think he's got room to make another blunder like that one.

23. As an Obama supporter, I think the suspension is necessary and correct
This kind of personal badmouthing of ANYBODY must stop, and the only way to make sure it stops is to make the punishment fit the crime. What he said was stupid and deplorable. He deserves to pay the price for it. Sorry, but we do have to change the way we do politics: questioning the use of a candidate's adult child by calling it "pimping" is so beyond the pale I cannot in anyway condone it. I can't even understand it.

Stick to reporting, Schuster: badmouthing and opinionating not only does not change minds, it's offensive and causes backlash. Go to the corner and think about what you've done.

25. Apologies by media for remarks that trash people don't work for me. It's too easy-
they just trash someone and say "I misspoke",or "I'm sorry I offended some people" then go on doing it. Politicians do it a lot. Media does it a lot. Yes, its free speech and he has a right. His employer may claim to have some standards, but to apologize for something like this is not sincere, given his occupation.
