"Pimped Out" Comment Could Jeopardize Dem Debate on MSNBC
http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/msnbc/pimped_out_comment_could_jeopardize_dem_debate_on_msnbc_77029.asp?c=rss

a TVNewser tipster wrote: "Howard Wolfson on Clinton conference call just blasting MSNBC for comments David Shuster made about Chelsea Clinton being 'pimped out.' Wolfson threatening to pull debates. Says there's a pattern at NBC."

The "pimped out" reference is about a comment Shuster made while filling in for Tucker Carlson yesterday. He was talking about Chelsea Clinton's role in her mother's campaign. Shuster said, "Doesn't it seem like Chelsea's sort of being pimped out in some weird sort of way?"

Huffington Post has the video of the comment as well as Shuster's apology this morning on MSNBC.

Howard Kurtz writes about the incident on the Washington Post web site, quoting Wolfson from this afternoon's conference call. Calling it "disgusting," and "beneath contempt" Wolfson added, "I, at this point, can't envision doing another debate on that network."

Just this morning MSNBC announced a Feb. 26 debate between Sens. Clinton and Obama.

Shuster plans to apologize again on Tucker tonight at 6pmET. MSNBC spokesperson Jeremy Gaines told Kurtz, "The comment was completely inappropriate, and we have called the Clinton campaign to apologize."

1. Good.
Hillary wants debates, she can hold one with herself on Fox News.

4. Pretty sad, if Hillary prefers Faux News
but not out of character.

One stupid comment among many...but still so far fewer on MSNBC than Faux that they aren't even in the same galaxy... but she goes to war against MSNBC?

Hmm.

2. Aw, come on, Wolfson ... you're showing how *white* you are
Haven't you heard of the show "Pimp My Ride"? "Pimped out" doesn't necessarily mean she's being literally "pimped" by someone. Shuster was just trying to be a little too hip -- it was a stupid remark but it's not part of any pattern.

Now Wolfson's sweater on the night of the New Hampshire primary -- THAT was "pimped out" ...

8. Pimp My Ride Means Make My Car Look Cool
When you say somebody is pimping somebody it means they are trying to sell that person...

And Shuster is the most white bread guy on tv...He doesn't have a hip bone in his alabaster tinged body....

14. He didn't mean "sell" -- he meant "being used" ...
He made the comment in the context of using Chelsea to appeal to young people or to call Super Delegates. The big problem was the use of the loaded word "pimp" but I think they're totally overreacting.

Billary need to realize that their daughter is now a 25-year-old woman, not a 13-year-old. They don't need to be quite so protective of her and hysterical when people treat her the way they do other public figures.

19. They are totally overreacting - to hog the news cycle before tomorrow's votes?
Just wondering why the Clintons would make such a deal of this... it draws attention to what Shuster originally said, in which there was a point - Chelsea is being used to go after the superdelegates .... and anyone with a sense of fairness and under 50 years old knows he was only using a colloquialism, and suspension is way overboard.

30. Are Barack and Michelle pimping their daughters with their photo ops?
No. But if someone like Rush were to say such a thing, how many weeks would we endure of Barack's supporters howling in outrage? If you think Chelsea is fair game because she's 25, you have a memory problem. She was called a dog by the right wing, that comment was started by Rush, and being called the love child of Janet Reno and Chelsea Clinton. She's been enduring this crap for years from the right, and now she's having it flung at her from the so-called left.

You just don't get it, do you?

Stand on a street corner and hold up a sign for Barack in one hand and a sign in the other which says "I'm being pimped." Watch people's reactions. Then come back and tell us what the meaning of "pimped" really is.

11. If one were to make a list of all the sexist things newscasters have said on air in the past year...
would this comment be anywhere near the top?

It was a stupid thing to say, and Schuster should have been slapped down and should offer both a personal and on air apology. But why is this particular comment catching such flack? Doesn't Matthews say worst stuff every day?

17. Thank you! Chelsea is 25, not 13
If she wants to campaign for her mom, she's going to have to suffer the slings and arrows of the press. Comes with the territory. As the Clintons love to tell their opponents, "this is politics -- GROW UP."

18. Pimpin ain't easy
Good grief. Newsflash- David Shuster doesn't think Chelsea Clinton is a prostitute. It was a dumb thing to say, given that old people have no clue as to what he meant. That is one of those phrases that has become ubiquitous in the popular culture to a point that it has lost its original implication. The Clintons should get over themselves, but they won't.

37. We all know Hillary does better in debates than Barack,
so of course she wants to debate him every day of the week. He shines in stadiums, needing to give 2 speeches: the planned one and the one to the overflow crowd standing in the cold. What were the crowds today? 20,000 for Barack and 5,000 for Hillary? He wants to meet the people, not the camera.
