Fake ass outage: It also suggests that the Hillary camp sees the potential for political gain
Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 03:07 PM by wndycty
And to think Obama gets bashed for allegedly playing the race card (when is not), but this is ok?

-snip-
Though Shuster apologized this morning, the Hillary campaign has clearly decided to seize upon the opportunity to launch a major attack on the network. A few weeks ago Chris Matthews publicly apologized to Hillary after suggesting that her whole Senate career and presidential candidacy was made possible only because of Bill's shenanigans in the White House.

Asked about Shuster's "pimp" comment, Wolfson denounced the comment as "disgusting" and "beneath contempt," adding: "It's the kind of thing that should never be said on a national news network."

Then Wolsfon added: "You have to question whether or not there is a pattern here on the part of the network." He added: "Is this part of a pattern? I don't know, but beneath contempt."

Then, unbidden, he concluded: "I'll say this. We've done a number of debates on that network...I at this point can't envision a scenario where we would debate on that network given the comments that were made and have been made."

That he would effectively rule out future debate appearances for the time being strongly suggests that the Hillary campaign discussed this in some detail beforehand and decided to launch this broadside against the network. It also suggests that the Hillary camp sees the potential for political gain in drawing media attention to negative and sexist comments made on MSNBC about her and her daughter.

Last I saw both Michelle and Chelsea were women, why was it necessary for you go ethnic as well? Shuster was wrong, he apologized but the Clinton camp wants to leverage this for political gain.

Again, since Michelle and Chelsea are women why did you feel the need to go ethnic?

"Go ethnic"? Are you deluded enough to think that I just attacked Michelle? My point is that however spontaneous and "off the cuff" Shuster was being, he would never utter a racial analogy to drive home a political point, but it is hard to find a sexist analogy too outrageous for the media to use.

63. And that would be your preogative, I suppose.
Me, I'm just sick and tired of the Phony Apology Wars that have gripped this country for far too long.

David Schuster has really been one of the few on-air reporters in mainstream media who has given the Democrats a fair shake over the past awful administration. Does anyone remember that he practically owned the Scooter Libby/Valerie Plame story from the beginning? Can anyone remember anyone else who was in mainstream media every night providing such excellent and accurate reporting on that issue?

He said something profoundly offensive, and has apologized once for it this morning in a sincere manner, and will do so again this evening. Is it truly your preference now that a reporter who made an idiotic statement exactly once in his career should now be removed from television and forced into a different career?

Schuster is an ally on every other day. I'd like to see him apologize again this evening, and then get back to work.

45. Apology?
I listened to his "apology." First he refers to it as a "housekeeping" matter; he goes on to say that he said many NICE things about Chelsea; then says he used slang that some people found offensive. In no way does he take any responsibly for what he said, only that some people might be offended.

You, and several other people on the board, have said that David Schuster has been consistently fair in his political coverage, which is good to hear, but doesn't exempt him from the need to simply say "I screwed up, used language that I shouldn't have, and won't do it again."

This is nuts. You don't go on national television and imply that someone's daughter is a whore because she's supporting her parent on the campaign trail. Chelsea Clinton has been ridiculed by adults who don't like her parents ever since she was a child and her parents have every right to be bat shit crazy pissed about it! All parents have that right when someone is going after their kid.

BTW, just because someone apologizes, doesn't mean the apology HAS to be accepted. I sure as hell wouldn't accept an apology from someone who talked that way about my child.

That's why you can find white guys who think it's fun to show up at one of Hillary's events and hold up signs while she was speaking and yell out loud "IRON MY SHIRT"!

But until now I have not heard or read any reports of any white guys turning up at any of Obama's events holding up signs and yelling out "SHINE MY SHOES"! just for "fun".

Hmmm ... I wonder why that would be? :eyes:

Maybe because sexism is funny? Because women don't fight back?
