MSNBC's Shuster to Offer On-Air Apology to Clinton
<snip>

"The comment was completely inappropriate, and we have called the Clinton campaign to apologize," network spokesman Jeremy Gaines said today.

This is the second apology to Clinton by an MSNBC journalist. "Hardball" host Chris Matthews expressed regret last month for suggesting that her political success can be traced to sympathy stemming from her husband's affair with Monica Lewinsky.

7. Someone pushed him:
"When Hillary Clinton's spokesman, Phillippe Reines, contacted Shuster and told him the comment was offensive, the reporter e-mailed back that he was referring to the fact that Chelsea is making calls to convention superdelegates but refusing to talk to the press. Shuster did make that point on the air -- after his pimped out comment, which was not delivered as a joke.

Reines was incredulous at the lack of an apology, but Shuster stood his ground.

Until this morning, that is. Shuster plans to apologize tonight on "Tucker," the 6 p.m. show on which he was filling in for host Tucker Carlson yesterday."

How big of him. :eyes:

31. Up until
I stopped watching, she's been Clinton bashing right along with them - at least she's not being sexist about it, though.

And it really tears me apart because I have a huge crush on her. Olbermann too - and they're both joining in on the Clinton bashing. I stopped watching rather than hate them forever. once the primaries are over, I can go back to watching them.

I just hate seeing two people I respect so much being so biased.

73. Here, we have a classic attitude that any young
woman who does something for herself is somehow a whore because of it.

Attitudes like this are the reason why women are never able to break the glass ceiling. We have to listen to insults like these throughout our twenties and early thirties then other types of insults later. Meanwhile, we have to work twice as hard, be twice as good, and only get half the credit we deserve for our work.

But, you got your rights though, don't you? Must be fucking nice. Thanks for getting in the way and making our lives twice as hard as they would normally be if we actually had equal rights, prick.

20. He damn well should ... we've got a problem in journalism, folks
And we'd better realize it. The kind of free-wheeling gutter talk the right developed so well in the 90s and which found its way onto the cable airwaves, has infected ALL television talkers, not just the right-wing ones. I found myself even developing a distaste for Keith Olberman more than a year ago--not because I disagree with him, but because I do not like the tone, the animus, the the shoot-from-the-mouth style. When he (or Schuster) stick to reporting the facts, it's okay ... when they start with acid commentary--be it directed against our own or against the side we oppose--it's wrong. The banter (and attendant apologies) has to stop. Journalism needs to look itself in the face, and we need to think about what kind of journalism we on the left want. I know I do not want cheap banter or oppositional cheerleading. I want reporting that allows us to make up our minds.

Chelsea Clinton did not deserve this. Hillary and Bill didn't deserve such a horrid comment. I'm not sure an apology really erases the fact that he felt able to comment in such a way on television. Shame.

25. I think that NBC executives should have a meeting
with their so called "journalists" and send them to sensitivity classes. MSNBC has gone so overboard in their idolatry of Obama and bashing of Hillary that I now would rather watch political coverage on Fox. At least I know where they're coming from and they have actually been more even handed in their reporting of Hillary. I have even heard O'Reilly defend Clinton several times. For example, when Tweety made his now infamous remark about why he thought Hillary won her senate seat, O'Reilly lashed out against him and called him sexist.

I'm totally disgusted with the political coverage on MSNBC and can only tolerate Dan Abrams, who at least tries to be impartial.

Hillary there; probably for all the wrong reasons but I now catch myself wanting to hear what he has to say because he usually shows much more respect for her than others. I found myself writing a message to Olbermann a couple of weeks ago. I was shocked by how he interviewed Clinton, and when she laughed, he sternly said something like "Other than laughter, do you have an answer?" I cannot imagine him doing it to any other -- male -- candidate. I am very disappointed in Olbermann. Watching Countdown is not the same any more. It may get better once we have a nominee, but if it's Hillary versus McCain, all bets are off. Matthews will just switch his idol worshipping from Obama to McCain. But Olbermann may get better.

Abrams does balance it some, that's true. I now enjoy watching him more than Keith.

55. Yup
I stopped watching Keith a couple of weeks ago. I've always thought he was a bit of a sexist ass, but I chalked it up to his age (over 50) and his background in sports.

As long as he didn't let his sexism show too often, I could handle it, but that Clinton interview was kind of the last straw for me. The utter lack of respect just threw me.

And I watched his show every single day, never fail. I even DVR'ed it.

62. Did you see Olbermann's apology? He seemed genuinely upset about
Schuster's remarks.

63. I adore Schuster, but I'm heartened to see Democrats "hit back" at the media.
Mixed feelings on this one I guess...
