EARLY VOTING NOT PROMISING FOR DOGGETT

Overwhelming numbers in south end of the district

Despite a $2 million dollar and two month campaign advantage, early voting totals suggest that Austin's Lloyd Doggett could be in trouble rolling into election day tomorrow in his race with McAllen's Leticia Hinojosa.

Hidalgo County had 30,327 early voters. Starr County had around 8,100. In contrast, Doggett's home turf of Travis turned out 22,389, but his district is only in a small portion of the county.

Doggett may yet pull it out of the fire in Hidalgo County where he has spent considerable resources and time. However, his presence in Starr, Duval and Jim Wells counties has been minimal.

Local races for sheriff and county commissioners have been driving turnout in the Valley. The question is whether or not the congressional race has even registered with spanish speaking voters.

1. I voted for Doggett
I have no idea who this Hinojosa woman is from McAllen. I'm sure she's be a good Democrat in the House, but she won't be my congresswoman. I'm from Austin, she's from McAllen, and she does not know how to represent my neighborhood.

2. Talk about Gerrymandering

This district spans Hidalgo county at the Texas/U.S. border and snakes it' way up to parts of Austin. over 300 miles to the North?

3. More reasons to hate Tom DeLay. :)
That's utterly ridiculous. Somebody please take a large mallet and play whack-a-mole with DeLay. :)

Hardly "compact and contiguous," eh?
