Bowing out gracelessly

St. Louis Post-Dispatch

The following editorial appeared in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Friday, Feb. 8:

It would have been better for the nation if Mitt Romney had said he just wanted to spend more time with his family.

... snip to second to last paragraph ...

By the end of 2007, Mr. Romney had spent more than $86 million on his campaign, and he surely has spent many more millions not yet reported. Included in that sum is the $35 million of his own fortune that he lent his campaign. By leaving the race now and helping heal internal party differences, he improves his standing among potential Republican donors, whose largesse could help him repay the money he lent himself.

I wonder if there is a message here for Democrats. We should quit this trench warfare, least we look like Mittens and the GOP.

1. Mitt looked like someone had just strapped him to the top of a car
And driven cross country with him shitting his pants all the way.

I don't know what they did to him, but he delivered a speech that contained key points someone not from his campaign had written. He looked like a guy who had been water boarded, and was reading his confession.

3. Of that I have no doubt, however....
Just pointing out what the article says about Mittens, his campaign, the money, the shifting opinions, and the fractures in the GOP, all seem to parallel what's going on in the Democratic Party now.

It seems to me that what we can take, positivly from Mittens (besides the obvious that another one bites the dust) is a cautionary tale.

We ought to wise up and get back to a serious debate instead of the personality nastiness that vexes both campaigns and DU publicly.

4. My first start at a reply was about DLC corporate influences,
but if you are talking about the vitriol connected with haircuts, cackles and pre-school, then I totally agree.

Stay focused, folks.
