Florida Voter Registrations, more repubs than dems
Heard on a local Florida tv station that over 400,000 registrations took place here recently. However, repubs 2 to 1 over dems.
The report also stated that rebs are gaining Hispanic and souther state Jewish voters. Reggie?
If that's the case, we are in for a vicious fight this Nov.

1. need some context for this report
Did the Republicans have a voter drive over a weekend? That might make this report less a threat than it appears.

Last thing I read was FL registration statewide is about 43%-D, 39% R.

No doubt about it though, the Democrats have to get out and register every D voter they can find. I hear Republicans are working precincts hard. We have to do the same.

2. That's interesting
because I've seen a number of stories about how party D has now swung back to pre-9/11 levels, with the Dems having a solid advantage.

Democrats in Florida Want to Settle Score in 2004

By Jeff Zeleny, Chicago Tribune Knight Ridder/Tribune Business News

Mar. 8--WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - As John Kerry writes his game plan for an eight-month duel with President Bush, loyal Democrats practically salivate at the thought of settling the score from the last presidential election, which ended here in disappointment and chaos.

Their anger cooled for a time during the three years of the Bush administration, but now it is back in full force. Even before last week, when the president's re-election commercials started filling airwaves across Florida, many Democratic activists longed for their nominating fight to conclude so Bush could become the party's sole target.

"There is a feeling that we regretfully altered the history of the world in a way that we don't like," said Lois Frankel, the mayor of this sprawling southern Florida city, who was one of the most visible characters in the presidential recount in 2000. "It was very personal to us here, but the policies of George Bush will be the driving force of the 2004 election."

Those policies are precisely why some Democrats wonder whether Ohio, Missouri and other states suffering from wounded economies and record-setting job losses could be more fruitful territory for Kerry. While no one questions the symbolism of revenge here, where Bush won the election by 537 votes and a favorable U.S. Supreme Court decision, there is no guarantee that Florida will become the most critical battleground of the fall race.<snip

4. 400,000 voters registered?
I am trying to find the link I saw a few days ago that shows vote results for all U.S. presidential elections since the beginning of time. I wanted to see just how many voters there are in Florida. That 400,000 number sounds awfully large... And awfully rounded too...

But that other poster is right. If there was repuke reg drive, that would explain the ratio. And that Dems need to register every damn Dem in the state.

5. I know I know
it all sounds too...vast. I watched in on a local Tampa station. Sorry I don't have a link. I'll watch more tonight and see if they repeat it. 4 hundred thousand seems too much.

8. Check Rebellious Republican post #3, he has a link up to the
Florida Voter registration site, first link in his post. It shows number of registered voters by party affiliation as of Jan. 2004.

7. Well there's one less Repug and one more Dem...
My partner was a repug (by birth) for almost 20 years. He officially changed earlier this year to Dem...though he has voted mostly Dem for a long time.

9. There are a hell of alot of pissed off Howard Stern fans in the Orlando
and South Florida metros, who will now be voting for Kerry because of what CC did. And the minority community will be more excited than in 2000 because more and more of them have heard about the purge
