They're everywhere, cult thread this, cult thread that. If it bothers you so much, why do you keep talking about it over and over?

You don't understand why Obama supporters could possibly be seen as a cult.... then someone sees that there's yet another thread about cults, so they post in it, say "yeah, it's creepy"... then you argue that it's "sooo not!" Then another thread gets started about how unfair this cult thing is. Rinse, lather, repeat.

This kind of reaction isn't exactly helping out your case, to be frank.

1. It bother them because it rings of the truth.
Belief is the enemy of truth.

2. And you guys are pathetically desperate.
It shows.

I myself laugh at the cult posts, because I think they're just petty attacks from concerned Hillary supporters. They remind me of the same attacks we heard after 9-11, linking anyone who didn't have a flag or didn't support the president as unpatriotic. It's just mindless attacks that lack any true substance.

3. Agreed, let's concentrate on what the Clintons are hiding in their tax returns from 2006!

4. I'm not a hard core Obama supporter and....
I posted at least one thread about it because it's a pattern that I think is really obnoxious.

I hate to use another cliche, but the characterization of Obama as a would-be Messiah and his followers as a mindless cult is a classic example of Rove style politics.

Take a candidate's strength -- in Obama's case his inspirational qualities -- and try to turn them into a disadvantage.

6. Next thing you know, they'll accuse you of perpetuating the cult meme.
But you're right. A Barack follower posted a thread tonight bemoaning all the cult threads making DU look bad. :)

7. They fear that it is true

so they attempt to project it onto others.

A http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cult_of_personality">cult of personality or personality http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cult_of_personality">cult arises when a country's leader uses mass media to create a larger-than-life public image through unquestioning flattery and praise.

A cult of personality is similar to general hero worship except that it is specifically built around political leaders.

8. I wish we "knew" Obama better...
Sometimes he seems like a carefully crafted contrivance, too perfect. Then I have to wonder who's behind this creation. Did he just spring up suddenly, this wonderful, inspiring, hopeful candidate, or, if not, then who are the ones responsible for his rapid rise, and why? I want to know what everyone's motivations are here. We must always hold our own candidates to the same kind of skepticism that we subject our opponent's candidates to. I always question politicians' motives.

So I won't trash talk Obama, because I don't know. He may truly be the one who can restore our country's honor and standing in the world, or he may not. He may be the one who reaches out to the poor and who humbles the mighty, or he may not. It bothers me that I don't know -- but there it is.

Hillary, at least, is familiar. Obama is a leap of faith.

9. Guilty. I just can't stop thinking how absurd it is to mock someone in politics for being popular.
I can't help thinking that ridiculing this meme outweighs the harm in repeating it. Maybe I'm wrong. But it is rather ridiculous. It's like making fun of an athlete for winning too much.

But yeah, guilty as charged. Something to look out for.
