invoking racism for the black vote for going so heavily to obama, is a bunch of bs.

6. I don't think we're allowed to mention that when there's a black Presidential candidate,
Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 01:19 AM by Yossariant
he wins the South Carolina Democratic primary which is composed of a majority of black people.

To do so is not to state the obvious.

It is to be branded a racist.

11. JFK got 80% of the Catholic vote in 1960
Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 01:07 AM by jackson_dem
Total fluke. Never again will a "first" candidate get 80% support from "his" group. Obama is winning 88-12 over Hillary and beat Edwards 78-1 among blacks in South Carolina (while Edwards beat him 40-24 among whites) because he has the best record on black issues. Obama has a 100% lifetime NAACP rating. Edwards' was only 97%.

3. I think that race shit is over now, consider Obama won a handful of mostly white states
It'd be pretty hard to sell him as the "black candidate" again. Nice job clintons, not only did 80% of AA's turn against you nationwide, but Obama is increasing his white support all over. Up to 41% nationwide with whites, and leads among white men.

Also considering that the black vote was overwhelmingly behind Clinton until fairly recently and that other black candidates in recent history, like Carol Mosely Braun and Al Sharpton didn't get consistent majorities of the black vote.

The Latino thing is overplayed as well; Obama did well with Latinos in some places and not so well in others.

Also, Obama generally improves among all groups in a state once they get a chance to get familiar with him and his platform, which will benefit him in the primaries/caucuses ahead.

9. MSNBC or CNN went through a bunch the other night.
It's very possible that a lot of Latinos just like Hillary.

13. They mentioned 5-ish AA politicians who received heavy Latino support...
... but I can't remember any. (former LA mayor was one.)

8. What you said is accurate... blacks were not behind Obama until more recently.
Blacks *have* supported Obama more than Hillary in recent primaries; however, it would be difficult to determine whether they support him now because...

- they feel he's the better candidate
- their shared heritage
- the Clintons injected race into the campaign, and pissed a bunch of people off

Take your pick and proclaim it as the ultimate truth.
