Impulse Thought Before Bed: I Don't Want A Rock Star In The White House. I Want A President.
After zooming through a bunch of threads right before I head to bed, that was the thought that just popped into my head.

Good night DU, and remember to love each other.

6. Well, you're going to get a famous woman or a rock star.
Or a neoconservative scumbag.

12. What's funny is I don't consider Obama a "rock star". He's just a brilliant
Senator who says and stands for things I agree with. His message and his life story are consistent, positive, and inspiring. His policies are sound. His record in his legislative career is slightly left of Clinton and his foreign policy positions are even more left than Clinton. On some key issues (IWR, cluster, bombs, and kyl lieberman) he didn't stand with the Republicans as Hillary did. He's charismatic enough to get things done and smart enough with good enough judgement to pick the right path.

It's you guys that are trying to make him a cult like figure so you can marginalize him and his supporters.

He speaks in inspirational terms, but that's what great leaders do. It's fundamental to human communication.

Was Vince Lombardi a cult leader because he had a poetic way of saying things?
Was Abe Lincoln?
Was MLK?
Was FDR?

What is so wrong with a little poetry to go with our prose?

13. Right Bread, also Churchill
Churchill's great gift was oratory. He buoyed the country when England was fighting for its life, when its people were being pounded nearly senseless by the Axis. He was tremendously important in the Allied effort to overcome Hitler, just by his speeches alone. They are a wonderful read, and the recordings of them are wonderful to hear. I believe that Obama will stand as one of the great and inspirational orators of our age.

15. As an American citizen, our presidents are public servants. Employees.
As a supervisor, I'm looking for someone who knows how to run a country. And, the current employee is such a fuck up that he needs fired, but, apparently relying on his peer group to whom I've granted the authority to demand accountability from their "leader",means I end up fucked, and not in the good way.

I'm not hiring a leader behind whom I'll fall unquestioningly, I'm hiring someone who tells me what needs to be done and who explains to me what I should do to help them make it happen.

16. Sixty-four pages. Sixty-four pages of clear, concrete-specific, detailed plans for the White House

He's not a rock star. He's a leader.

Good night.
