A Challenge to all Obama Supporters
Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 12:31 AM by hnmnf
Let's take the high road here. We are getting smeared left and right from a very vocal minority on DU. We are having everything thrown at us at here. But what we need to remember is that it isnt Hillary Clinton, nor is it her campaign offending us, calling us cultists (Okay, maybe it is Mark Penn after all, but ignore that it very well could be :-)). This is coming from a select few in the media and those at DU. So what my Challenge to you is, lets try our best to not tear Hillary down, but use our posts to bring Obama up. Dont respond to divisive flame bait threads. And if you do, keep your cool, maybe even responding with a simple, "That is your opinion" or something like that in order to not give them the satisfaction of pissing any of us off. I challenge all of you to take the high road as I will try to for the next 5-6 months. Let's do all we can to get Obama elected. Gobama!

1. But don't we need to spread the word that their candidates are douchebags?
Plural for the Edwards supporters. I wouldn't want to ignore you like the MSM did (perhaps you should go have another cry about that)

2. If you believe that slimeballs like Terry McAuliffe and Mark Penn aren't behind this...
...then you are naive.

It's the narrative they want to get out there right now.

Bidenista is a paid shill of their campaign. He is doing this for PAY.

Saying that Hillary's campaign isn't behind this is like saying the Bush campaign wasn't behind the "Swift Boaters for Truth".

This has Mark Penn and Terry McAuliffe... but especially Mark Penn.... written all over it.

16. Well if it is her campaign, then let Obama take care of it. He has done a good job so far
But as long as we are here, just for the Good of DU and for some of us our sanity, I still think taking the high road is best. Call me naive if you want to, but I think its the best thing to do.

19. And then have him beat up
for the next ten years for not hitting back when he was attacked as a cult leader? That's what the supposed taking of the high road got John Kerry, and the beating up came directly from the Clintons. They believe in "beating the brains" out of their opponents, as she clearly stated on the MSNBC special tonight.

I don't think this is a big deal, but sometimes you do have to fight back.

26. Is this your first election?
It takes the entirety of the fervent backers of the candidate to hit back when the candidate does. Working it into conversations, writing letters, sending emails. Again, I think this cult thing is silly and not worth talking about at this point. But please don't think the candidate can respond to serious attacks alone. That kind of thing takes WE the people.

31. If people aren't putting out the facts here
I promise you they aren't getting out anywhere else. I have people repeat the same stupid stuff in real life that I hear at this web site. I've been asked if he's a Muslim and I do not live in freeperville.

Again, I'm not talking about the stupid cult thing, except to the possible extent that you don't believe it came form her campaign. But it is important to make sure false info is corrected. I am STILL correcting false info on the Iraq War, most often the time frame the inspectors were in Iraq. I think it matters.

Plus, We are not the campaign. I fully would expect Obama to respond to any of this divisive BS if it came to him. But we arent on the campaign. We are merely supporters on a message board. And I think taking the high road could help foster some sort of sanity on this board.

......I will refrain (as long as Im not alone......I will speak up to defend one of us) from responding in any Hillary supporter's thread that deals with "cults", or tries to devalue being an Obama supporter beyond being in good humor.

For now.

If they continue I wont promise to remain silent for long.

9. Bingo.

John Kerry sat back and took this kind of crap.... waited too long to call the Bush campaign to the carpet over it.

We let this seap into the public consciousness without a fight, and it will be "Gore invented the Internet" all over again.

why dignify it with one. The thread titles show they are not worth opening.

You cannot have a rational discussion with irrational people, and they probably feel the same way.

11. So was "Gore says he invented the Internet"
...this has now become part of mainstream folk lore.

Doesn't matter that he never said it. 90% of America believes he did.

The crap these Clinton supporters are pulling is from the same play book.

17. That is what Kerry thought.
We are not being irrational to deal with this charge.
I have seen a pattern arise across the internet and the media seeding this charge.

I am confident that it did not originate on DU. It is a Clinton talking point.

We must not be naive. Remember how frustrating it was when they said that Gore
claimed he invented the internet. But it stuck. Even though there was no true to it.

These may be more serious than it seems. If it is a Clinton talking point, it has been focus
group tested and it was an effective jab.

having an anonymous pissing contest doesn't make much sense.

phone fax or email tv or radio that makes those charges.

32. Sadly, these memes are fought in the trenches.
First they were spread through right wing radio, and now the internet blogs and forums.

We are right in the middle of it. Going to the media does not have any effect any more than it did
when they were doing it to Kerry. The MSM would explain the charges were baseless and they
continue to spread on the internet like wildfire.

That is why they are dangerous. You know the saying a lie will spread around the world before the truth
puts its boots on. That is the world in which we live.

I am not sure how we deal with it. It is pretty scary because once these things are seeded in places like DU,
the true believers, and I use that phrase intentionally LOL will run with it.

You are right you cannot argue with them; they are true believers. But others that see the charge maybe
less influenced if we counter the stupidity of the charge.

It would be nice if everyone could take it to heart without trying to show their cleverness with smart aleck comeback. It takes me back to teaching freshman English. There was always someone straining for a laugh. Kid was usually in the back row. Didn't matter what we were discussing.

Arguing with Hillary supporters is a complete waste of time. Do so only to satisfy your personal need to tell one or more of them to go suck an egg. Then get back to encourage other Obama supporters.

Our goal for Obama should be to advance his positive message, while occasionally telling a Hillary fanatic they're nuts. We won't get them to vote for Obama anyway in the primary, so why bother talking to them? Let them talk to each other. They need you to read their nutty attacks, so why give them that? I turn them off ASAP, and don't miss them at all. I don't even see all these cult threads they're running, because I have all those losers who start them on ignore. Their names and threads do not foul my computer screen.
