Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 07:12 PM by WilliamPitt
If Senator Clinton wins out and takes the nomination, I'll be perfectly pleased. Policy-wise, there isn't much difference between Senators Clinton and Obama.

In my opinion, Senator Obama will make the better General Election candidate against Senator McCain, who looked to be in control of the GOP race before Tuesday night, and now has it all but wrapped up.

Clinton v. McCain takes the war pretty much off the table, rhetorically, and will lead to twisted and tortured explanations from both sides. Obama has no such burden.

Also, Obama is polling very well among independent voters, something that hurts McCain badly.

So...I guess I'm a cultist now, right?

Cool.

I'm not too enthusiastic about either one, but I'll vote for either of them.

5. I disagree on Clinton v McCain. 1 year and we are out vs 1000 years of more war
granted Clinton's policy isn't as good as Edwards' was, but neither is Obama's. However, he does have bragging rights, but I don't think that will do much for him in the general.

When Jack McCain pats himself on the back for backing the "surge" and his "good judgment", Obama can counter that he had the good judgment to oppose the war in the first place.

Additionally, Clinton would have a harder time running on experience against McCain. She'll have to do a pretty quick presto-changeo and become the Change Candidate (TM) in the GE.

Second, I don't think that we've answered the Nat'l Security thing. We will need a candidate that can answer that because the fear factor will be poured on...in lieu of the war.

I don't think either candidate has it where Nat'l Security is concerned.

56. Obama Girl from way back when ...
Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 08:38 PM by NanceGreggs
... but have preferred to rant from "neutral territory" because ALL of our Dem candidates have brought so much to the table since the beginning of this process.

Kucinich spoke for me (for all of us), but I knew he wouldn't last. Neither did he - but that's what made the man so great, his ability to raise the issues that he knew the others would have to address once he spoke about them.

Edwards had my heart from hello - but again, most unfortunately, it takes more than heart to win against the heartless on the other side.

Had Biden been the ultimate choice, I wouldn't exactly have cried myself to sleep. I've always loved his no-nonsense take on things.

But Obama has that indefinable "something" that lifts my spirits, who makes me believe that all is not lost, that better days are indeed within my grasp if I only have the courage to reach out and grab them.

Should Hillary turn out to be the nominee, she has my vote and my full support. I think she'll make a good president - I just personally feel that Obama would make the better president.

In the end, it all comes down to that all-important (D) behind the ultimate candidate's name. I'm hoping for Obama - but that's just my preference - the preference of my fellow Democrats will prevail.

58. Who Do You Think Will Be Swifter, Stronger And More Mentally Ready To Ward Off The Attack Machine?
To me, it's not about the war or any other policy. Who will win, will be who is best prepared mentally, tactically and willfully to defend against and counter attack in response to the RW attack machine. I think Obama may hold his own to some degree, but at some point may find himself flustered and vulnerable. I think Hillary is absolutely stronger than he is in that arena, and will skillfully not only deflect the attacks, but also turn them against her opponent in such a way to give her strategical advantage. I'm convinced this trait as it relates to the GE is the one most vital trait our candidate needs to have, and I think Hillary absolutely wins out in that category.

Do you think Obama would be better than her in that regard? Or do you think that trait isn't really as important as I'm making it? I'm curious your as to your opinion on that.

At any rate, enjoy! Go "HOPE AND CHANGE!" It's all a crap shoot!

66. My inner debate goes back and forth about who'd be better in the GE.
Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 09:29 PM by Sparkly
I don't buy the idea that Clinton vs. McCain "takes the war pretty much off the table." Their proposals are diametrically opposite, and Obama's voting record is the same as Clinton since he's been in the Senate.

I see his appeal (at least prior to RNC and PAC attacks) as his plus; if he can drive more voters to the polls, that's important. Clinton's plus is her sense of strength on policy -- and on matters of foreign policy in general and 'security' in particular.

72. Good logical decision making there
We are all struggling with trying to determine (assuming they are nearly identical on issues - which I agree with you on)

1) Who will be the better President - i.e. can get things done (you didn't address this)

2) Who can actually get elected so that 1) even applies.

We could have circular arguments 100 posts deep and still be no closer to agreement.

I respect your choice - at least you didn't say "GOBAMA!" :D

NOT! I'm disappointed in both of you.
Not for your choice of candidate, but for your need to proclaim your choice
and jump on the bandwagon. I'm somehow expected something different from you.

Guess you're just human like the rest of us mortals.

Oh well. Another bubble burst. My last illusion dissolved.
Nance... YOU surprised me the most. You have always been my hero. No more.
It just doesn't matter anymore I guess.

No more DU heroes for me. You were my last two.

Please pass the kool-aid.

91. I am from Mass and voted for Clinton
I feel the same way as you. Both are good candidates. I will be happy for and work for whomever gets the Nom.

The only place we part ways is that I believe Obama would be leveled in the GE. I just think Hillary is stronger and wiser. She knows the enemy and how to combat them.

I think the terrific field of candidates we had this year says alot. Makes me very proud to be a Dem.

93. You think too much to be a cultist!!!
After years of reading your posts, and after meeting you once a few years back, I see you as least likely to join a cult. But as passionate and excited about Obama--as many of us are--I can see where some people get uncomfortable.

You are definitely a person who thinks deeply before they leap. To see you come out for Obama makes a lot of us very happy!

99. As a rule, too much thinking creates the paralysis of analysis.
Often we know from what the rest of our body tells us if something is a good thing or just so-so.

That adrenalin rush and rest of our emotions more often put us in places where our thinking brains might have been too slow to act. Good or bad that is how we are wired.

I can attest from the years here that WilliamPitt has occasionally acted and posted on emotion but i am quite sure he is not coming from that place with his original post here.

That cold killer instinct is an emotion that is devoid of all others for the other side of that coin.
