To the HIllHounds of DU... I hope you are pleased with yourselves. A Rant!
And no... Im not talking to all Clinton supporters... just those whose single purpose is to suck every last bit of optimism from every Obama fan. Hounds of Hill... you know who you are.

I worked my ASS of to get every young 20 something person I know involved in the political process this year. And as I now regret... I sent them all to DU. Now Ive gotten FOUR phone calls today... from young Obama supporters... some of them IN TEARS over the shit they've read on this board.

Imagine being a young, enthusiastic, NON-politically hardened person and coming to a "Democratic" board only to be accused of being brainwashed, braindead, or in a fucking cult. They say "if this is what politics is about, I dont want any part of it".

I cant BELIEVE I have to fucking defend these asshole posts on DU. You know... you can call ME whatever the fucking hell you want. Im impervious to the hatred. But the young people new to the political process are NOT. And YOU with you evil intended posts have single-handedly UNDONE everything Ive tried to do to build our party.

So I hope you're fucking pleased with yourselves. You've taken young Dems who just voted in their FIRST primary and turned them into people as bitter as you are. And is it my job now to convince them to vote for YOUR candidate? Why? You sure as hell havent.

And then theres Mr. bunnies. Its taken me TEN YEARS to get him politically active. At 35 years old he just voted in his FIRST primary. NOW he has the impression that half the fucking party loathes him. Great fucking job HillHounds. You win. I know five people you've beat down.

End of rant.

As for the brain washing it happened as one example CNN and the word Obama, if your candidate had been you might as well say swiffed boated on CNN and other stations , what we have posted would have blown the site away. Edwards wasn't mentioned unless it wass something to bring him down until after Iowa, then he got very little until many complained...

Then I was warming up to Edwards, and he said "no"

For a while there, I thought I was dating again!

I'll just wait and vote for the candidate whose last name ends with a capital "D"...

32. Your sense of entitlement is hilarious
Maybe these darling young potential Democrats might be disillusioned by seeing the only successful Democratic President of their life-times derided as a rapist and racist and thief by your Hope battalions.

Maybe they will be disillusioned to find that Hillary Clinton, not George Bush, is really responsible for the Iraq war.

Maybe they would be disillusioned to find out that less educated people who support Hillary are just dumb losers.

Your sides' hope parade has looked like Stalingrad, or Sherman's march to the sea.

200. If Mr. Bunnies had voted for Hillary, would he feel warmly embraced here?
You say that thanks to HillHounds, Mr. Bunnies feels half the party hates him.

If he had voted for Hillary, I guess he would feel the warm embrace of Obama supporters' love and tolerance.

You obviously feel entitled to have your political choices (and those of people you know) validated by everyone, but you don't seem to have the first notion of the fact that the HillHounds, as you call them, have been treated like hammered dog-shit on DU for a solid fucking year.

Obama supporters on DU are, on average, the nastiest people I have ever encountered anywhere.

You expect young people's hopes to be validated, as long as they vote like you. If a young woman excited about Hillary came here she would be told that she should shut the fuck up and go die in Iraq. (In those words... we have all seen it more than once.)

And she would probably cry.

So, yes... you seem to feel you have a right to have your views respected by all, and are not unduly concerned if other people who diagree with you are savaged.

So please, give me a fucking break about Hillary people being oh-so-nice and civil. They've been far worse than anything Obama people have said. They just can't stand the fact that she actually has opposition, that she's not going to just cake-walk to the nomination, that she actually has to go through the democratic process first. They can't stand the fact that we don't think she's automatically entitled to the presidency.

And, btw, when the fuck is she ever going to acknowledge being wrong in voting for the IWR, and for every single war funding bill since? Hmmmmmmmmmmm??????? And when is she going to stop using her "crying", which is nothing more than crocodile tears, in order to gain sympathy and support?

but now that Edwards is out hes for Obama.

And no... Im not talking just about young Obama supporters as many of the kids Ive gotten involved have supported other candidates. Its just that Obama was example of the day due to the phone calls Ive received.

I think the HATE against any of our candidates is not only wrong, but despicable. I dont think a young woman excited about Hillary should be discouraged anymore than I think my young Obama supporting friends should be.

The Hillary hate is just as bad... imho. I dont condone either. It hurts our party.

I merely bristle at suggestions that the hate is peculiar to Hillary fans.

Nobody gets shit on at DU like Hillary. That's an observation, not a call for pity. The shear hated of Hillary has been so constant that it becomes background noise, like it's natural. (Like the one kid in every class that kids accept is there to be picked on, because they are so used to seeing him picked on.)

I doubt more than a handful of Hillary supporters actually hate Obama. Many, many, many people here genuinely HATE Hillary. One can argue that hate is deserved, but either way it is hate.

Sure. I prefer Obama and you prefer Clinton. But I dont feel as though we think we need to beat each other down. 248. They soured on politics
when what they should have soured on was the Internet. The common netiquette is vulgarity and emotional combat. DU is far from the worst place. AOL message boards were so bad that every post I read I said to myself, "How could somebody actually say that?" The E-mails sent into the in-boxes of prominent journalists and political figures must be unfit for children also.

Tell your pals that "go fuck yourself" doesn't mean the same on the net as it means in real life. It's just an expression.

426. Exactly. The internet is a contact sport and DU during primary season isn't pretty.
In contrast to most of the internet, though, DU is a model of civility.

Anyone in tears over posts on an anonymous message board needs to log off. That's not meant as an insult. It's a reminder that this is not "the real world" and we shouldn't mistake it for the real world. Have real flesh-and-blood friends. Canvass and work for the candidates you choose. Love your family and friends and animals.

If the internet isn't fun, don't do it. Seriously.

362. You haven't exactly taken the high road here.
The Obama supporters at DU (some, not all) have been disgustingly rude and ill-mannered. They've said horrible things about Hillary and her supporters for over a year now and I'm pretty sick of it.

The name-calling actually has gone on for longer than a year and it's always worse during an election cycle. I don't mind if somebody supports another candidate---that's good, I mean I don't expect everybody to think like I do. But when they start in with really mean, mean stuff that kind of stops the discussion and starts a fight.

In fact, it's not a discussion when you inject horrible names and such---it just turns you off.

I would really like it if we could be civil to each other and learn how to have a conversation without having it turn into a brawl.

I especially like the part about Hillary--personally--starting the war.

And bringing up Anita Broderick is about the lowest, slimiest thing I've read here on DU. That smear came from the Republicans during the impeachment, while everyone was piling on, and when the bimbo eruption started peaking.

Nothing came of it because there was no there, there. They just wanted their 15 min. of fame.

Oh, and one of the best put-downs was being derided for being a boomer. Boomer=loser, according to Obama. It's SO yesterday!

Now, it's "Bill Clinton is a racist." It just won't stop.

you should have told them DU isn't always the friendliest place. A year ago when I first joined, I got my feelings hurt a few times at first, but you have to keep reading. If you tell them to keep reading, they will learn what this board is all about and where the people on here are coming from.

This cause didn't start yesterday, and the people on here are very passionate about their goals and the journey that got them to where they are at. Tell your young friends to keep reading and learning, and not to get discouraged.

378. These are kids who are star-struck by a charismatic candidate....
and I was wondering who directed all of the Obamoonies to DU to spam the board with ridiculous post after post. Hundreds of newbies, all directed to DU to spam the hell out of it. Great, thanks. :eyes:

The thing with the Obamoonies is, they have NO sense of practical political necessity. Let me explain that. The Obamoonies (for the most part) are a bunch of political neophytes who have been drawn into the political process by the appearance of a "rock star", a "messsiah" who strikes their emotional heart-strings; Barack Obama. That's a good thing, IF, they stay in contact with the Democratic party no matter who wins the nomination. But they won't. I've read SOOO many posts here by Obama's acolytes saying, "well if Hillary wins, I'll NEVER vote for her". And therein lies the rub. These are NOT people committed to returning the White House to Democratic control. Their only concern is getting their messiah into office. If Clinton were to win the nomination they'd stay home and wouldn't vote. If they can't have their way, they'll hold their breath until they turn blue and stay home, rather than vote for the "evil" Hillary. :sarcasm:

Don't get me wrong. I'm glad they're being drawn in to the Democratic process, but they need to realize that ANY Democrat elected to the office of President is FAR better than any Republican. But their loyalty to the Democratic Party begins and ends with Obama.

On the other hand, if Obama wins the nomination the Hillary supporters will still turn out in droves to elect a Democratic President. They're more mature voters, many have been voting for decades, and understand the practical political necessity of returning a Democrat to the White House. They're DEMOCRATS, not star-struck fans of a charismatic candidate.

That's the difference between many Obama supporters and Clinton supporters, as I see it. And I don't think I'm wrong about this, as is evidenced by the OP's plaintive damnation of Clinton supporters who have been "mean" to their neophyte Obama acolytes.

Suck it up kids. If you think Hillary supporters are "mean" and make you cry, just wait until the right-wing attack machine starts in on your young Mr. Obama. They'll drive you into the loony bin. Talk about people who are "mean" and don't fight fair? If you can't take the heat, stay the hell out of the kitchen because it's only going to get a lot more rough from here on out.

I'm a Democrat, and will vote for whoever our process anoints as our ultimate candidate. Can, or WILL, the Obama supporters say the same? No, I thought not.

Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 08:05 PM by Icyclemort
I wouldn't call someone pathetic (even if i thought he was), unless he clearly deserves to be called out for it. (G.W. Bush jr. comes to mind)

(And BTW, i don't really think the original poster meant that they actually cried tears. I read it as a metapher for their reaction in general and after reading the board the last few days, i thought really hard about registering. I only did it, because i thought that some more people had to try to inject common sense, politeness and friendliness into this - democratic - debate )

And, as a general rule, don't make fun of people's emotions.

"Clinton is a whore"
etc

Sure, when I came to DU, I was polite too. Try spending a few months here, and you will understand why people act the way they do.

Everything you mentioned above is despicable. (The first might be something I'd let sbd. post, although I'd argue against it. The rest - imho - is cause for a warning/ban)

If you thought they were impolite, why did you turn out the same way?
If I get fed up and am on the brink of descending to these levels, I'll quit and don't stick around.

Must have forgotten where you are.

Over here we dislike Hillary because we are progressive left, not troglodyte right. We object to her positions, not her existance.

I've NEVER seen anyone here call Hillary a whore, except as political whore - a term that is non-gender specific to anyone who votes by polls.

Repeatedly saying crap like that is exactly what pisses me off about Hilbots (as opposed to Hillary supporters, many of whom are very nice people who do not promolgate myths).

Put on your big girl panties and deal because this ain't nothing compared to what Mr. Obama will deal with should he get the nomination and have the repuke destruction machine working against him 24/7.

If their commitment to Obama is deflated by some crap on a message board, they will be completely crushed by a national opposition swiftboat campaign.

198. You know...
the funny thing is that while some of the people I dragged into politics are Obama supporters... there were just as many Edwards and Clinton supporters. Sure. Some of those kids are stubborn little pricks. But just as many are not. Are you willing to lose the ones who are not because of the ones that are?

447. No, the idea is to shame you for replying to their
"I love Obama" with "cultist!" instead of with "Why?"

They come here for political discussion and get accused of being mindless drones. They come here as Democrats and are called Moonies.

If you want to convince them to back Hillary, ask they why they support Obama. Then, answer their answers with counter-arguments.

Doing otherwise just means you are a Hilbot and a bully, who doesn't really give a fuck about the Democratic party.

330. Allow Me To Put It This Way
You don't get to control what hundreds / thousands of people on an anonymous message board are allowed to publish.

You don't get to decide what's legitimate expression, here.

You have no business attempting to shame people for writing things the admins will allow.

If you don't like it, get some financial backers, hire some coders, and build your own internet community where you make the rules.

Uh-huh. Agree 100%.

Mind you, having been made to feel like the enemy myself every single election cycle ("Teh Gays lost us the election! Teh Gays! Teh Gays! Teh Gays!"), my sympathy for your thin-skinned little friends is... let me see... ZERO.

I won't even get into how eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevil y'all have made me out to be since I switched my support to Hillary. Y'all didn't mind so much when I was backing Dennis, 'cause y'all knew he didn't have a chance of challenging The One, didn't ya?

I'm pretty sure they expect this kind of shit from the oppostion.

But to be inflicted with the kind of crap that is thrown around here, by people who claim to share the ideals of the Democratic party- that should upset them- It should upset all of us- on all sides of this screwed up primary.

Edited on Thu Feb-07-08 05:05 PM by incapsulated
They better grow up and fast.

Because these are love taps compared to what the GOP has in store for them.

That is REALITY. Not speeches and rallies.

The *reality* is we are fighting a radical right wing who have been busy stealing elections and shredding the constitution the past seven years and they will do their damnedest to destroy whoever the nominee is.

DU is nothing.

Find a supporter forum if you want to inspire each other.

This isn't the Obama forum or the Hillary forum.

It's a rather notoriously hostile primary knifefight forum, was last primary, worse this time, as expected.

no, this isn't politics- and this isn't acceptable- and I've been
here and seen a lot of really ugly times.

This primary takes the cake- without question.

I can't say that I personally have behaved in ways that I'm pleased with either.

There is NO excuse for the kind of shit that goes on around here.

People are using this place as a way to get out their rage and frustration, and a hell of a lot of it has absolutely nothing to do with this campaign.

We aren't going to need the GOP to shred our candidate- It is being done here, on a regular basis- a daily basis, by people who claim to be "better-than "them"- but who act like complete assholes.

I've had need to apologize on this forum before- and have done so. I'm not proud of it, but I can't deny my own responsibility.

I still have PTSD from the last election.

It's a bloodbath, always was.

But I tell you what, it's meaningless at the end of the day compared to what the GOP does to our candidates in a GE.

And if reading crap on a message board about a politician makes you cry, I really wonder where you have been the last 7 years.

I don't care if you are a college student, I didn't cry over stupid shit like this when I was 21 and frankly, it is nauseatingly hypocritical to call out "Hillhounds" when she has been on the whipping post on this forum for a solid fucking year.

223. no- I'm
not new to this forum or to DU- I lurked after the selection and became a member not too long after.

I actually have real diagnosed PTSD- so I'm not ignorant, naieve, or innocent by any means. (you are free to PM me if you want proof)

I also don't excuse inexcusable behaviour- Under any circumstances.

You cannot use your own "tolerance" for verbal abuse as a measure for others. And while I completely agree that there have been terrible things said by people who claim to be "Obama supporters"- the IP isn't about them- pointing to someone else and saying "yeah- but look at what they did" didn't cut it for my kids when they were very little- it doesn't cut it with me when adults use it-

We aren't discussing what "they" did- we are discussing what happened to some young, excited voters, who came to DU to discuss politics. And I don't doubt that they recieved some terrible, and in-excuseable replies. We should take this as a wake up call- all of us.

I'm not among those singled out by the IP and I feel ashamed- ashamed that this board cannot be 'grown-up' enough to argue about issues without resorting to childish, bullying and personal attacks-

I KNOW we are better than this.

Accepting anything less, is not doing anyone any favors- I think you know that.

Politics is mean, dirty and nasty. And if some of you people think that posting messages on an anonymous internet board can be bad, I would just advise you to never actually work for a candidate or elected official. Hell, I've been called things straight to my face that I couldn't post for fear it would be deleted, and yet people on this thread are acting like the Clinton supporters have turned the nice Candyland game of politics into something dirty. We endured months of the same anti-HRC screed: "She lies! She cheats! She'll do anything to win!" And a thousand people showed up to keep chanting it -- in unison. Same phrases, same words, at a rate of 200 to 300 per day per Obama supporter.

So tell me again how you get people active by trashing candidates (and their supporters) you don't like. Or is that how you define "optimism", "hope" and the unity Obama pays lip service to?

Again, the Obama strategy of WAM (Whine-Attack-Moralize) is in play. I'm happy that you have brought so many people into politics. Now stop the character assassination against the ones you disapprove of.

A bunch of kids who don't have a clue how ruthless the repukes will be to their hero and how nasty real politics is. It's not a pep rally.

If anything, they will understand why we laugh at his talk about holding hands across the aisle by the end of it.

Growing up sucks but you better do it fast if you want to be involved in politics.

But it is a SHAME that a board with such potential to reach thousands of democrats and indies and new voters is allowed to dissolve into total crap. I do not understand why the moderators or admins allow it to continue. The damage to this board may be permanent, IMO.

The attitude toward young democratic voters expressed in this thread is appalling to me. He doesn't particularly care for either candidate, but I realize that we have to bring younger members into the party.

Young dems expect nastiness from the other side, but they aren't expecting it from within the party that they're trying to learn in and are looking for guidance not vitriol.

If I had invited some young Clinton supporters to DU and they read GDP, do you think I would be sorry they didn't like what they saw?
They would probably be shocked as much, if not more, but if they said they wouldn't come back to DU, it wouldn't break my heart. I guess it's because I am a seasoned democrat. I have been thru a few of these elections. Feelings are definitely not the first things considered when some are composing their thoughts here. That is why I use the ignore feature. Between people who are in a political campaign and a people who are in a feel-good revival. The former expect nastiness and can deal with it, the latter believe it's all going to be affirmations and get their feelings hurt if anybody says "boo" to them. But some here still can't see the difference.

327. People Who Use DU to Campaign Are the Ones Pissing In the Pool
Both by positive and negative campaigning, IMO.

Only a fool would seriously consider DU a testing ground for their campaign; too many trolls, too many uncontrollable factors. I think a lot of people started out trying to use us for positive campaigning and when they meet resistance, started having fits.

Then you have the assholes who go straight into negative campaigning here.

People have demanded primary talk be contained to this forum because they know it stops thoughtful conversations dead in their tracks.

The only way to have a genuine discussion about a candidate w/out a flame fest is in the individual forums.

I have no sympathy for most of the Obama kids. Many were obnoxious as soon as the campaigns began in earnest.

No one had it worse than Dean supporters in '04. Many of us had been on DU since year one and nobody had any idea of the punishment to come. I lay the blame directly on people who were active campaigners who couldn't separate their duty as a campaigner from their DU community obligations.

For this year, no one can say they weren't warned in advance.

221. Well, as long as you're aware of yourself
I was undecided until the Rezko thing--unforgivable racial shit-stirring, IMO--which, combined with all the young people I know suddenly being into politics for the first time, made me support Obama. I think the odiousness of a few Hillary supporters on here, the ones that sound like autotext and don't even seem to have read whatever they're responding to, might have been a factor as well. I've seen Obama people making ham-handed statements and sticking their feet so far in their mouths they come out their ass, but they still seem like human beings.

The only thing that gives me any sense of Obama vs. GLBT is DU--it's not out there in the "real world" in my experience, and none of my gay friends are supporting Hillary or against Obama because of it. People are going to need to do a better job of getting it "out there" if there is any substance behind it.

430. I disapprove of the word,
but I wouldn't call "You people were so nasty to my friends that you made them cry" an attack. Calling people brainwashed cult members is an attack. Calling people out on their actions isn't.

This doesn't take into account the possibility that the OP is lying, but we're not supposed to consider that here unless someone posts a demonstrable falsehood. We're supposed to take each other's statements at face value, though generally we don't.

To me, an attack would be "you sHillbots are all shrivelled up old man-haters" or something along those lines--similar to the kind of stuff I'm used to hearing ("crybaby," etc.) because I support Obama.

435. Passive-Aggressive Is Still Aggressive
A post like the OP is something that's *intended* to make it's target *feel bad.* It's an attempt at emotional manipulation. IMO, such provocation deserves as severe a thrashing as one can lay on it.

It's not just "HillHounds." Obama supporters have pissed off backers of almost every other candidate on DU, just as their candidate has pissed off a great number of DUers.

When we see anyone attack a Democrat using RW talking points, we assume we've got a RW shill on our hands. In this case, the shill is another Democrat trying to get elected, and his supporters are so enthralled by his charisma they can't see that Very Uncool Thing he's doing. I call that a cult.

It just happens that Hillary is the only other Dem left with a slice of the pie worth mentioning, everyone else has bowed out. Otherwise, we could be / would be EdwardsHounds, BidenHounds, KucinichHounds, etc.

There are asshole Obama supporters to; sometimes I'm one. haha. But seriously, this site really sucks right now. Only Skinner or maybe Will Pitt have the gravitas to get people to quit this shit. About 2 weeks after we pick our nominee things will pipe down a bit.

Try it sometime, this getting older thing. You're going to be kicking your own ass, hard, for having such a rotten attitude toward those old geezers you're going to end up agreeing with.

Now back to your regularly scheduled let-them-eat-catfood remarks. That's one you're really going to regret having said someday.

and having been on this board for 3+ yrs I just ignore the stupid posts but your right the new ones don't know about this.

DU has changed alot since I found it in early 2004 on Michael Moores site. I am not sure where I would send the newbies until they toughen up a bit but I wouldn't send them here now unless you warn them that right now isn't the time to see the best of our site or dailykos as primary wars are going on and people are passionate about who they believe in and some of those people are being stupid and saying things they don't really mean.

If you do send them here tell them to stay in one of the candidates thread that they are for or even Keith Olbermans thread, all good loving people there.

If you're gonna curse people out, then don't be so disingenuously selective about it. If you're gonna take such a tone, then direct it at ALL the people who have ruined the discourse on this board, not just those who support the candidate you don't like. Cause that makes you a fucking hypocrite and it makes your message empty. If you are so blind to the vitriol that some on the Obama side are spewing that you don't feel any anger should be directed towards them for the way things have been in GDP, then I truly feel for you. It is the tone of discussion in GENERAL that deserves such a rant; not Clinton supporters. The fact you limited your message to only them makes your message nothing more than a bunch of bullshit.

And no one called you crying. Give me a fucking break. And if they did, well then shame on you for your lack of judgment in thinking they had a thick enough skin to engage here. I mean what; were you under the impression that GDP was all fucking hugs and roses? Have you been in a fucking cave or something?

I used the Obama example because it was freshest. I dont need or want to have a battle that puts ALL Clinton supporters and ALL Obama supporters on different sides of the fence. And I find it incredibly disturbing that so many in the Clinton camp want to do that.

Again. Many of the kids I sent here were NOT Obama supporters. But hell... maybe you're right. I'll introduce them to the bush/clinton love of the one-world government. Thatll harden them up quick enough.

would like to apologize for the way I have behaved here at times.

I can't offer any excuse, because there is none. I know better, and I should have the self control not to act like I do at times.

I wish I could send a peace offering-

The thing I wish I could say to your Mr. and to your young friends is- while I can understand their reaction, I hope they can re-group, and not let this experience have too much power over them. We are nothing more than a group of human beings, emboldened a little maybe by the 'annyomous' nature of the internet, who sometimes forget that our words and actions do have repercussions that we don't think about.

And that their voices are needed, and wanted here- Even if you need to use the Ignore function on most of us.

peace~

175. bunnies... please read....
Thank you for your rant. It was necessary, and I'm glad you cleared the air and got it out there. The way you're being crucified in this thread is something I'm sure you expected. Sadly, it is what it is, isn't it?

DU turns toxic during primary season, and especially this one BECAUSE IT IS THE NEVER-ENDING PRIMARY SEASON FROM HELL. It's a much nicer place to be when we're all united fighting the GOP, but when we turn our aim on each other, well, people just honestly lose sense of all that is good, don't they?

It's wonderful that you're working with so many people new to the political arena. That's wonderful!! And don't stop! The key to Obama winning this thing are the young voters he reaches so well, so please, please don't stop your fine work.

In the meantime, though... I don't think I'd tell anyone to visit DU. I get a kick out of taking a nightly cruise around Hate Block, but it's not for the weak-kneed. If you want to introduce voters to other activists online, during primary season I think I'd point them toward the blogs. And for discussion, DailyKos.

Offline, there are so many amazing ways for progressives to meet up. We have a rockin' Obama group here in Cincinnati that meets for cocktails and strategy and poll-watching! And there's the wonderful organization called Drinking Liberally... even if you don't imbide, it's really such a fun way to meet local progressives and talk this stuff out in a more meaningful way.

People are far more inclined to be hateful toward one another when they are hiding behind a keyboard. In person? Not so much.

At any rate, thank you very much for ranting today, and I support all that you're doing. I also agree with your sentiment about DU lately... but the poison pill is moving its way through our system and eventually, we'll all find a way back to each other and bring this bitterness right to the door of John McCain.

And her sending people here so immature that they cry to her about a fucking message board and we "Hillhounds" should be SO ashamed of ourselves.

This wasn't any cry for unity, it was a ranting, insulting call out of the OTHER supporters, like we invented this shit.

Fuck this noise.

They also felt a fiercely urgent need to pick up the phone to cry to someone it. (I really hope none of them "cut" themselves over this.)

For me personally, this thread is beginning to show signs of challenging "I Don't Drink With You" for the title of Best Thread Ever.

178. Thanks for the post. Keep it up, Hillary Clinton's ability to divide
is surely legendary. I am amazed that through her keyboard commandos she can cause so much harm. Bottom line, they reflect her like a mirror; a sense of entitlement run amok. There is a positive to this, while many of her supporters were clearly identified as douchebags before the primaries, some other have shown their bare asses and I am glad to know who they are.

maybe you can view it as a life lesson in how we got where we are today. This is what has passed for political discourse. This is why a new generation needs to add their voice..to drown out the belief of the inevitable and the requirement to do things as they have always been done. Page after page, comment after comment, has been a huge learning lesson for me. This is who we have been as Americans. The lack of respect to any human being that has opinions that differ from their own. It explains a lot, doesn't it? Perhaps it is the trickle down effect.

and they you care for most, that politics (perhaps especially as it is 'practiced' here) can be seen as less than a pretty sight and assuredly there may be a day certain when having a thick skin will be seen as your/their asset

I've worked allot in the theater, and have seen more than a couple run from the stage sobbing with face in hands while boo's & cat-calls bounced off their backs. It's sad to see how cruel some can be...but I've seen as well the boo'd upon splash a little cold water on their faces, pull themselves up, pinch their cheeks rosy anew, and traipse right back out there on-stage with a waving smile from ear to ear :)

It is my further sense that fresh, young, Hillary supporters just might feel likewise reading the hurtful opinions of Obamatrons here

291. what your young friends need to understand
is that this is all a game. There are only a few rules, and the stakes at the future of mankind. There is no one to tell you how to play, none of them know any better. All you can do is play according to the dictates of your own personal god, knowing what the stakes are. You can't take this seriously enough to have your feelings hurt, it's not that serious, it is much, much more serious than that. At the end of the day, the rich will still be rich, the poor will still be poor, undeserving children will still die in stupid wars, so has it ever been. Life's a bugger, and all you can do is try and make it a little bit better for those that come next. On the day after either candidate wins, we will all forget our differences and team up against the greater wrong, and anyone who doesn't get that really should avoid this place and all others like this.

This is not about you, this is not about me, this not even about the freepers, it's about all of us. If one or two comments, however nasty, turn you off, perhaps another hobby is in order, go home and let those of us who actually can handle it play the game. Go back to the minors, you aren't ready to be an adult about this.

322. I already weighed in
But I thought I'd just sit down here and rest a bit.

*scratch*

*yawn*

These GDP threads are so big and roomy. You can park yourself anywhere and no one gives a damn. That's what I'm gonna start doing. Why I'm gonna do it, only I can say. And I'm not talking.

*yawn*

I keep thinking about an orange. It's what's for dinner but it's way in the back, in the kitchen. I'm afraid if I eat it I'll get sleepy, and I really should finish this project before my conference call tomorrow.

Or I could just submit it as-is and say, "This blank part you see on your screens, that'll be filled in with words before it goes to client." But that kind of joke is hard to pull off over the phone. Or so I've found.

Welp *stretch* I think I'll mosey off and peel that orange and look for a cartoon to watch while I eat it. Maybe you'll see me later in another thread. Lots of em around.

I looked at other threads and even posted in a few but none of them are as puffy and fluffy as this one.

This is the kind of thread that an old lady could settle back in and feel billow all around her like a featherbed, soft and warm, muffling the sound of the screaming kids playing outside her window, letting her drift off and up and away. And when her family comes to wake her, she's gone.

If you can not take the political heat get out of the kitchen. I got involved in politics when I was five . That was how old I was when I watched my first Democratic convention. I understood why Goldwater was a good nominee for our party (and Rockefeller was to be dreaded). I knew who the hell George Wallace was and why he was rat bastard Democrat.

By the time I was 13 and McGovern was running for president, I was a seasoned political veteran.

I have no sympathy for these crybabies who decided to take their civic duty seriously in their 20s or 30s, and I will play no violins for them when they decide to stop paying the price of eternal vigilance that we all have to pay because their feelings got hurt.

Dudes, they would have been doing worse than bruising your egos in Chicago. They would have been busting your heads open.

Jeez. What a pampered, self satisfied, lazy bunch of whiners the Democrats have turned into.

369. Saying all along
Politics is not for the "weak of heart". If you think about it; the Clinton supporters are a "strong" bunch of people trying to defend (to the most part) Hillary Clinton's name and integrity; while on the other hand, Obama supporters are either feeling victimized or just being disgustingly rude. I encountered more than my share, and I dished it right back.

Where I come from, if you stand up for a cause, fight for it.

Funny you clump all "young" people in Obama camp; most of the young people I know have already caught on to the lame hype; now going with Clinton. Yeah, you just might be surprised.

Obama and his supporters actually think they actually "cornered the market" with hope, change, hope, change, etc., etc. Said it before and I'll say it again, the "change" "hope" slogan is getting mighty old and tired; used when a candidate has nothing else. Lacks substance. Simple as that. It's no wonder Obama doesn't want to debate Clinton except the one in March. :hide:

Saw today the Obama campaign held a "rally" in a high school gym, giving out tee-shirts!!

While Hillary Clinton taped a interview with 60 minutes. What does that say? Think about it. Move on with your cry baby rants to the Obama threads, there's plenty of them here and "cry" in your beer (that's if your old enough to drink) Cheers!

Let is bounce. Yes, we can. Believe it.

We know the battle ahead will be long, but always remember that no matter what obstacles stand in our way, nothing can stand in the way of the power of millions of voices calling for change.

We have been told we cannot do this by a chorus of cynics...they will only grow louder and more dissonant ........... We've been asked to pause for a reality check. We've been warned against offering the people of this nation false hope.

But in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope.

As an interesting aside.... CNN reported this morning that the youtube "Obama Girl" made it out to party on Super Tuesday. However, she did not make it to the polls. She "wanted to" <sniff, whine> but she didn't feel well. Oh, yeah.... and her registration was messed up somehow.... yadda, yadda.... "Obama Girl", as it were, turned out to be the worst kind of stereotype about young voters. She didn't even make it to the polls *with Obama on the ticket.*

I wonder how many of these new voters, currently starry over Obama... will actually show up in November? After a long, tough fight with the GOP. A fight in which they will learn alot about their candidate that they don't want to hear. Will they show up? In places where there won't be rallies, caucuses, and parties.....

It's a question worth asking.

388. They run right along side the pack of "Barack Hounds"
Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 08:32 AM by Marrah_G
Let's try this..............

And no... Im not talking to all Obama supporters... just those whose single purpose is to suck every last bit of optimism from every Hillary fan. Hounds of Obama... you know who you are.

I worked my ASS of to get every young 20 something person I know involved in the political process this year. And as I now regret... I sent them all to DU. Now Ive gotten FOUR phone calls today... from young Hillary supporters... some of them IN TEARS over the shit they've read on this board.

Great fucking job Obama Hounds. You win. I know five people you've beat down.

End of rant.

See how that works? Both sides are doing it and you fucking know it. Somehow you are partially blind and see only the nasty attacks on YOUR candidate and completely miss the equal amount of POO flung from your own side. How about directing your anger at all sides. Then perhaps I would take your post seriously. Instead all your post is is yet another pathetic whine about how mean the other side is for attacking the Angelic supporters of YOUR candidate.

392. That's exactly the point. Looks like the Clinton strategy is working.
It's not just the Hillhounds. It's coming from the top. This is the atmosphere that benefits team Clinton. This is deliberate and intentional from the candidate herself and carried out by surrogates. You're right that it doesn't include all or even most of her supporters. It does, however, include her, her husband, her campaign, and her associates. It's not enough to place the blame on "some" of her supporters or only the "Hillhounds". They are the symptoms; she is the problem. If she were running a different campaign, the "Hillhounds" would be pulling a different schtick. She needs to take the hit for how nasty it's become. It's her responsibility.

Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 09:02 AM by murbley40
As a Biden supporter in my heart, I don't think you can blame the nastiness on Du completely on Hillary supporters. As an observer of both supporters until as I said recently,I believe it goes both ways. Obama supporters are as nasty with their words as anyone else if not more so. Neither group discusses issues enough for my liking. If you discussed issues instead of bashing each other or anyone else that should happen to disagree with you, it would be much more helpful to your candidate. And in my opinion, the bashing by Obama supporters reflect their youthfulness.
If you can't stand the heat, I would suggest that all of you turn down the flame.

396. You do know bunnies how easy it is to get on a message board and stir up sh!t. You do know, don't
you, that there are people getting on here, that have no intention of voting for BO or HRC, that are just here to stir things up and spread their hatred. Sorry, just keeping it real.

I think you should explain that to your friends. Seems like they may be lacking in critital thinking skills.

397. Nastiness is the norm
I kind of stumbled in to this place less than a year ago. I would like to characterize it as republican shit-head meanness, but its not. It is typical democratic behavior. As Dem's we feel our particular interest is the cause that all should rally behind and don't understand (or like) it when we fail to convince others to rally behind our banner. The Re pubs up to 06' rallied and didn't break ranks. They attacked the Dem's. They made destroying our platform cause celebre(pardon the spelling). That tactic is no longer working for the Re pubs. Somewhere we as Dem's figured that maybe this "Rovian"tactic might be useful. It's not. These "attack at all costs" tactic will weaken us.
During the last debate between Clinton and Obama it was evident that the 2 are excellent Candidates. I was impressed with their performances and I was most impressed with the fact that the 2 acknowledged that although opponents they will renew their acquaintances with each other once the process has settled. We as supporters should also "tone down the rhetoric".
After having listened and watched Clinton I was more comfortable with supporting her should she win the nomination. I still firmly support Obama. I also realize that there is a good chance he may or may not become president. Each candidate has a strong platform each has negatives as well. As supporters of our respective candidates we should highlight our candidates strengths. I hope that all supporters will stop the pettiness and hate-mongering, but i doubt anyone will take it to heart.
The nastiness needs to stop. It only serves to make a petty person feel smug and superior with out every really convincing anyone other than themselves that their candidate is best. It is strictly self-serving.
To you newbies like myself, keep the faith there are those of us who empathize with your wanting to participate and encountering demeaning assholes, don't let their mean-spiritedness deter you.

belittling besmirching and berating each other only shows weakness. you are right about the General Election. The re pub's are gonna throw all they got. we expect it from them. but must it always be " E tu Brute" from within our own ranks? we are just trying to get into the process? Thanks for the being the abusive father and justifying it by saying the world is going to be tougher than i am.

403. I agree. The nastiness and fighting has to stop.
It's serving only one person: John McCain.

Some "HillHounds" (your term) do go overboard. This sours many but mostly it hurts Mrs. Clinton because people associate the negativity with Clinton. There have been a few Obama supporters guilty of the same against HRC.

It all has to stop.

It doesn't help your candidate or your party (unless you are really a repuke troll).

It only helps John McCain and the Rethuglicans.

Now that we have a presumptive (don't you love that word...oh the irony) repuke nominee, we should confine ALL negative comments to attacking Mr. McCain, not each other.

That is unless, we want four more years and God knows how many more wars.

406. I can't vote
because I'm from Canada.
I'd like to see Barack win because I don't like the idea of a Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton thing happening.
It doesn't really show change. Was Clinton better than Bush2? Fuckin' right, but so was every other one before him. The next?? ugh.

I see the fighting in here in different ways. It's good that people are so passionate about it, really wanting to make a change. Calling people names is pretty much par with message boards. I can't understand how someone would change their vote based on what someone on an internet message board says to them or about their favorite.

Fighting against your own side is good if it helps the right person get elected, for the right reasons. Get the shit out there.. the more info you have the better before making your decisions, sift through the name calling and find your issues, don't defend them rabidly, but question them and see what/if anything changes.
Don't let someone sway you because of what they say to you in a personal attack on a message board, decide for yourself. Admitting it makes it worse.. The ones that slam and do all the shit you don't like think it's working and turn it up a notch.

407. I really don't care what anyone else here has said.
I've cried after reading something on DU before. Actually literally cried.
Granted, it was aimed personally at me. But still. Words can hurt you. And discourage you.

I agree with many of the posters that this happens on both sides, etc. Few people are completely innocent.

But, I think it's fucking ridiculous to poke fun at these young people for being emotional while this whole thread is full of playground games. The whiny accusations of so-and-so started it, or they do it too! read like grade schoolers on the monkey bars.

If this thread even represented that HALF of Duers were sick and tired of this bullshit, they could stop engaging in childish rhetoric and make a change. Seriously. If half of DU just stopped engaging in this meaningless monkey poo flinging fest, stuck to the issues, were polite and treated each other like human beings, I seriously think the difference would be huge.

Sure, they'd have to put up with others being nasty and rude and not lower themselves to that level for a while. Sure, they'd have to learn to hold a civil tongue, do a little more research. But, think about it guys! You'd get to feel incredibly self-righteous, and with a REAL REASON too!

No one will listen to me. That's ok. I think, secretly, some people enjoy being nasty and engaging in flame wars over nothing and feeling victimized. But, I've always tried to post by the basic idea that I will not post to you anything I wouldn't say to your face in person. Tired and overused, I know. But, it works for me. I get in to fights, I say mean things sometimes, but I still try to engage people as I would in person.

Back to your game of tag. I'm done.

We who support Hillary are in the minority on this board and I'm sick at heart to see my candidate getting viciously bashed on a daily basis by so many so called Democrats. I see less hate for Hillary in the Freepers site, for crying out loud!!!!!

I'm sorry if some of the young people called you in tears, it's a shame that our political discourse has become so nasty. It's so virulent that I fear that unless both Hillary and Obama run on the same ticket, McCain will win in November. There's just too much bad blood between the camps.

Personally I'm up to the point that if Obama is on the ticket, but not Hillary, I'll stay home in Nov.

I grately appreciate the work you are doing, let's just keep the enthusiasm going for Barack and not be dragged down by negatitiy. We know what Barack truly means to people. Just keep our focuses and let's not come down in positivitiy, that's the trick to pull us in to confrontation. Our best option is to just not engage it and stay to threads that are for Obama. The ignore facility may help some posters.

And, if these kids can't take some criticism from a message board, we have raised a generation of pampered wimps. What you describe sounds immature, self-involved, and pathetic.

438. Why the republicans are losing, and the Hill Hounds are attacking.
Edited on Fri Feb-08-08 02:12 PM by Scott from Mpls
The repubs are enamored with the politics of 25 years ago. Some of the Clinton supporters are clearly enamored with the politics of the 90's, and we want to move ahead. You Clinton people (at least the ones who are willing to stoop to nearly any level of smearing, rancor, playing all your stupid little games like calling in and pretending to be republicans or independents to radio shows, and all the misleading little internet games you want play- btw you're really easy to spot) better understand this. When we showed up at our caucuses here in Minny with 200,000 democrats, comprised of a veritable army of Obama supporters, I can tell you the Hillary people here actually looked a little relieved. Here's you're gawd dang army democrats! Wake up. I can tell you at my caucus... wall to wall people... at my table of 6, I asked how many of you are new, all hands shot up (one independent), all Obama (our count in the room was 77 Obama 30 Hill). These are first timers, you are absolutely right, and we have an army of em up here, and we seasoned democrats have developed the skill of holding our noses while pulling the lever, these people have not. And if you Hillary people believe for one second they are going to fall inline behind the Hill, YOU'RE WRONG! Electing Hillary is political suicide with regard to our big turnout leads and the inability of the gop to excite their base. I keep telling you people and telling you that running Hillary and Bill again is political suicide. We may still win, but it will be alot closer. On Barack's coattails we might even get a filibuster proof majority in the Senate. I've defended Bill and Hillary a million times, and I'm getting pretty tired of it. I'd rather talk about racism for the next six months if that what it comes to, than have to relive Monica Lewinski, the Blue dress, Whitewater, Vince Foster, the Clinton machine and on and on and on and on. Forget it. And you are NOT going sink our party down any further with all you're dirty tricks, like you've been pulling all throughout this campaign. Sure, I'd be the first one to grab a Hillary sign if we lose. But you'll have to beat us! You'll have earn this one. You can join our army, or get out of the way, because we are coming through.

Supporting someone because he is a charismatic figure who says all the right words is cultish behavior. Now, I don't want to overstate that. Obviously O. is not Jim Jones or Rev. 468. Have we all gone mad???
I just read the replies in this thread and I am trying to figure out when logic, social decorum, and maturity all left us.

This entire website in the last few days has become one of the biggest and most prime examples of a pre-school sandbox I have ever experienced.

Hint to all of you jokers that are still loudly and rudely arguing that the "other side" is being... louder and more rude: It's both sides. About equally on "both sides", from my casual observation. (Please use this as a reason to start the same dead tired flame war again arguing who is "worse", I could use the irony.) And who cares anyway "who does it more". Maybe you could choose to try to post and live as an example of what you view as optimal rather than trying to squeak in at slightly less lame than those that you despise. Fighting about who fights more. Kindergarten.

The "So what, look what HE did..." BS is not only illogical, it is something that was unacceptable to most of us as preschoolers. For the life of me, I cannot comprehend how an adult could attempt excuse their own (or others') acts by pointing out another's slightly more severe transgressions.... Although it might be interesting to try that in court, "I know I'm accused of verbally assaulting someone, but I saw this other guy yesterday and he was really yelling at another guy!" Wow. That would probably win you the case.

But the most maddening of all is the fundamental fallacy (that is all too prevalent and accepted in our society today) underlying all of this: That somehow all supporters of a particular candidate share a mind. "The Hillary supporters said this!" "Obama fans said that!". No, wrong, Einstein. Like it or not, in REALITY a lone doofus sits at the root of every single post, not all supporters of your flavor of choice(or blind sheer hatred). We actually accept it today when people discuss how entire groups of people feel or what they think. "Democrats say...", The Iraqis feel that..." Bullshit. We are individual humans, not bees. Some of you brainiacs even take it so far as to imply that the candidate him or herself stands behind the postings, or at least that certain qualities of a candidate's "fans" (who are all, of course, identical in this warped reality some of you have created for yourselves) reflect on the candidate him- or herself, or are a result of that candidates (evil voodoo witchery) influence People even saying they "hate" the opposing candidate because of their supporters. And some people actually choose their vote based at least in part on the perceived attitudes of the generic imaginary image of a supporter for the candidate. If someone has a problem with a post or an individual, why not address that, and realize that it is one post, not some giant machine pumping hate in your direction. You fools are talking to one sucker down in his grandma's basement, not the giant evil HillBama hivemind. (I put Hillary's name first, is that showing "my true colors"? Please fight about it. Pile on the irony.)

We are all individuals. We are not "bots" or brainwashed cult members. What an individual says is his and his alone, no one else can control it. And in turn, he should take the responsibility of controlling it. Especially rather than attempting to blame and obfuscate by pointing at others doing the exact same thing.

Some of the posts in this thread are mind-bogglingly illogical. It would waste time to point them out, but take a look anyone that wants to be amazed. Those that this post does not apply to will spot them right away. You others will remain blissfully unaware.

(This is a reply to this sorry-ass thread in general, not the OP)
