ABC News: Clinton Senior Staff Goes Without Pay

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/02/clinton-senior.html

ABC News' Kate Snow Reports: Members of Senator Hillary Clinton's senior campaign staff have agreed to work without pay for the month of February. Communications Director Howard Wolfson called the move "a show of solidarity with Hillary Clinton".

Campaign Manager Patti Solis Doyle is one of those who will forego a paycheck for the month. Solis Doyle told ABC News she offered the Senator her services for free. She said she was not asked to take a pay cut.

Many of Clinton's top staff, including Solis Doyle and others, have been with the Senator for more than a decade and are fiercely loyal to her.

The staff move to help the campaign save precious resources comes after a big media blitz preceding Super Tuesday -- including a one hour televised interactive town hall meeting on the Hallmark Channel, which set the campaign back millions of dollars, and regular TV ads that totaled more than $8 million over a period of less than two weeks.

3. This is just bizarre...
...really bizarre.

This is the position that Rudy was in a couple of weeks before he pulled out of the
race.

Are things really that bad for the Clintons?

I'm surprised they would even allow this information to be public.

One day, things are rolling along at top speed with our two Dem candidates, and
you assume they're both going strong.

This is just really strange.

4. I think they might be making this up, to create a "grassroots" movement
To inspire regular folks to donate... :)

6. You could be right...
...this just smells funny.

However, she did admit to using $5 million of her own money.

But why make that public?

It makes sense though. I don't think Hillary anticipated any sort of fight at all.
She thought she had Iowa, the day she came into our state with her pathetic campaign.

Obama and Edwards campaigned their asses off and had volunteers flooding our streets, emails
and phone lines.

I never heard "boo" from the Clinton people, except the day before the caucus. By then, it
was too late.

Not a lot of people outside of Iowa probably remember Clinton's half-assed campaign in our
state. It truly could win the under achievement award for campaigning. Besides planting
questions, accusing an Iowan of being a "plant" because she didn't like the question (Kyl/Lieberman)
and firing one of her senior staffers and another Iowa Director for sending out anti-Obama/Muslim hate
emails----she ran an effervescent campaign! LOL

I seriously don't even think she has a ground game.

I think both things can be right. They're trying to inspire average citizens to donate--and that's
why they've gone public. They're low on funds, because they didn't anticipate needing money for
anything, because they thought they had it wrapped up (inevitability and all) before they
stepped foot in Iowa.

11. I don't think she has a choice about making it public. You have to report your funding.
You're right about their ground game. It sucks. If she wins the nom she needs to fire her campaign team and hire Obama's. If they'll work for her.

8. the report will be out shortly so it doesn't make sense that
they would lie about either $5 m loan or the payment of salaries

7. I agree, it's really weird that Hillary's crew is letting all of this leak
But yet at the same time their spending habits do show that they're low on funds, I think they may have only advertised in like 12 states from what I read somewhere.

But still, just why is the campaign allowing information like "oh we raised 13.5 million in January" to leak out after Obama announces his 32 million dollar haul?

obama certainly has an advantage in the money game, he has access to Kerry's email list. I think I'll shoot him a coupla bucks.

9. Yes, but it's done when things are really bad...
...financially.

Staffers don't take pay cuts when things are going swimmingly.

I applaud these staffers for being so loyal. Hillary is fortunate to be
surrounded by people who she can trust and are willing to do this.

I just find this really shocking. I didn't expect this kind of news about her campaign.

It's like discovering that Donald Trump is poor and that his gardener and personal chef are working for free.

It's surreal.
