Is the South in play?
Edited on Wed Feb-06-08 12:10 AM by progressive_realist
Admittedly, they aren't final numbers (except Florida and South Carolina). But I'm looking at the turnout in the Democratic and Republican primaries. And of the total turnout, check out these proportions:

Alabama: D 54% -- R 46%
Florida: D 47% -- R 53%
Georgia: D 48% -- R 52%
Oklahoma: D 59% -- R 41%
South Carolina: D 55% -- R 45%
Tennessee: D 53% -- R 47%

Does this mean the South is going to be in play in the general election? No more red states? In the Northeast, only NH is this close. The rest are 65%+ Democratic.

1. No, Southerners still vote in Dem primaries
because local elections are often still decided there. Most if not all of those states will vote republican for the presidency in November.
