"Houston, we've got a problem." Kerry speaks in Houston today.

“It’s the worst it’s ever been. This is the biggest ’my way or the highway’ group of people I’ve ever met in my life,” Kerry said.

“In 2000, George W. Bush spent his campaign telling us that if he made a promise, he would keep his word, "Kerry said. "He told us he would change the tone in Washington. But after leaving a four-year trail of broken promises across every corner of America, we know that George Bush is running from his record because he doesn’t have a record to run on. Right here Texas, 84,000 jobs have been lost, and 5.6 million are without health insurance.

“He promised he would create 4 million jobs, but 3 million were lost. He promised he would make health care more affordable, but 2.8 million Americans have lost their health insurance. He promised he would cut the federal debt by $1 trillion, but his policies have added $1 trillion more. Houston, we have a problem.

“168 years ago today, the Alamo fell. Ever since then we’ve heard ‘Remember the Alamo.’ Today, let’s say remember the broken promises. Remember the lost jobs. Remember the blown surplus. We won’t forget. And this November we will remember America’s middle class families, restore fiscal responsibility, rebuild our economy, and bring back jobs.

“About the only promise we can expect George W. Bush to keep this time around is his pledge of ‘steady leadership’ – he has no problem campaigning on the same failed economic policies that have steadily led America into economic decline.

“Well we’re not going to let him. Everywhere I’ve been in this campaign, I’ve heard Americans desperate for a change in this country. And with your help, we can bring a new day to America. The people I’ve met here in Texas and all across America aren’t asking for much -- all they want is a government that honors their values and helps them build a better life. I don’t think that’s too much to ask for. And I think the time for waiting is over. Together, we’re going to get it done.”

3. Yeah buddy. I hope Kerry just keeps on message, it's not about being
kept in a perpetual state of terror, it's about the quality of life in this country, and how it's sinking deeper and deeper into the cesspool with Bush* and Company running things.

Hells bells, Osama bin Who? I could get hit by a bus tomorrow, so could you. We could be hit by an asteroid that scientists failed to detect as it hurled toward earth (although I doubt it). We could be wiped out in a pandemic caused by some crazed scientific experiment gone bad (I doubt this one too). We can all develop skin cancer because of the erosion of the ozone layer. We can die or be killed by a million things that we can't predict. Human life is not permanent, nor is it predictable. But we all deserve a crack at a decent life. Healthcare, food, shelter, clean water. This is what we need to focus on. And the Bush* administration is doing it's damn best to ensure that only the wealthiest amongst us have the guarantee of having these things.

John Kerry was the first presidential candidate I supported, until Clark came into the race. Well, Clark is out, and I'm back to Kerry. And I don't regret it one bit. He sounds damn good to me.

5. Hear, hear!
We are supposed to 'accept any price, and bear any burden' and cower and be afraid, and be good little serfs, while Bush and his cronies use Ben as an excuse to rape the nation financially and destroy our civil liberties!

The politics of fear, the politics of hate and the politics of greed. That is their only stock in trade...and I'm not buying it!

I liked what Kerry said in Houston, but I must admit I flinched when I heard he was in Texas.

Hey John! Stay away from those grassy knolls out there! Ben might be hiding behind one!

4. Kerry is not without his past faults (tho minor) but...
I do like what I'm hearing from him lately. He's pounding Georgie-Boy into the ground and not letting up on the damages that Bush has brought to America. Kickin' Ass!! I'm now behind him all the way.
