If McCain takes on Huck as running mate he can kiss his independent base goodbye
I think. Independents may be economically conservative but socially liberal in many cases and will they accept a bible thumping bigot as VP?

He'd tone down the religious stuff. I think McCain-Huckabee would be a strong ticket.

6. You can't tone down the religious talk.
Geez! We've been trying to tone it down since Reagan and they just won't shut up. Huckabee on the ticket would give him legitimacy and his followers would get louder, not quieter.

5. What makes you think he'd even do that?
Why do the folks here at DU think that the VP spot will be filled by an also ran? I read it everyday. Can you even recall the last time a VP was one of the other contenders? And not someone who was testing the waters but someone who ran against the nominee right doen to the last minute.
