Who else watched Hardball/ Moveon.org ad last night?
Okay, the whole thing was pretty weird. Did anyone understand the point Tweety was trying to make about the commercial being about sexual frustration? Maybe I wasn't watching closely enough, but it seemed that Chris was just trying desperately to throw off Zack Exley....it was ridiculous!

1. Which ad was it?
Edited on Fri Mar-05-04 12:52 PM by rocknation
If it was the one with the kids, I can understand why Tweety might think so...

2. The ad where the guy is working overtime to make ends meet....
and the point is made that Bushco is not on our side because he is against overtime pay.

3. how so?
the working kids, ad? don't see that at all. I find the ad to be very compelling - about what it means to push our debt off to those who will have to dedicate more of their tax earnings to pay off the debt being accrued today.

Oh... I get it... specific jab at Tweety, eh?

5. Good show, Salin
It did occur to me that my post might make someone mad, but I trust the overall IQ of my fellow DU-ers, and once again I'm proved right.

And thanks, Xantha--I'm going to run over to moveon.org to see if I can find this ad.

9. On that note....
Was Tweety salivating over the Bush ads the other night? I didn't catch that show, but I'm assuming Chris still has his crush on the Marlboro man.

4. Tweety's attempt at humor
The ad showed a guy coming home frustrated about his job and bills etc and sat on the side of the bed patting his wife who apparently was asleep. I would agree that having bush as president would cause part of our populace to be sexually frustrated but that's not what the ad was about. Tweety is a dumbass and he proved it again last night. I am glad that moveon is getting some publicity even on a show like his. It was a good ad by the way.

6. That IS an underlying theme of the Bush years........
not just this ad. I mean, look at the push for "abstinence only" education!!

8. I haven't seen the ad or that Hardball, but based on what I've read here
I'm wondering if Tweety was, in his own dumb way, implying the guy was depressed. Depression often leads to a decreased libido. After living through 3 years of * we know depression's bound to be in epidemic proportions. Sounds like a good ad that really hits the mark.

average blue-collar, white male population....you know, the NASCAR dads.

11. Tweety was attacking the Move on.org guy
Edited on Fri Mar-05-04 01:19 PM by Mountainman
At one point it seemed to me that he was threatening him saying something like "this show isn't a glamor magazine" or something like that. He kept pushing the guy to say that the ad was about a guy being mad that he works two jobs and doesn't get laid when he gets home.

Then Tweety starts gushing about the Bush ads. I must have seen the Bush ads or parts of them 5 time on Hardball the last two nights.

The fact that Bush has the media on his side plus 200 million to spend, yet can only come even with Kerry has to say something.

12. I saw it, Matthews is NUTS
I had watched that ad several times and never once saw anything sexual in it. It's obvious Matthews has never worked the late shift. A husband let's his wife know he's home from work and that's a sexual overture??? Come on. Guys can be crass, but he hadn't even taken off his coat yet!!!!! That was the weirdest interview Matthews has ever done.

13. Wasn't it a totally bizarre interview?
I asked my boyfriend to tape the 1 am (PST) repeat of the show last night for me, because I was trying to make dinner when the show was on, and couldn't watch it very closely. I'm going to watch it again when I get home. I heard snippets about the sexual frustration issue, and I was like... What are they talking about?!!

14. Better divert attention from the real point....
can't talk about people working too much for too little!
Wouldn't be prudent
