Truth-O-Meter: Obama's claims about Clinton "barely true"
http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/statements/331/
Obama's big lie:
Hillary Clinton "agrees with (John McCain) in embracing the Bush-Cheney policy of not talking to leaders we don't like."

The ruling from the Politifact website of the Congressional Quarterly and the St Pete Times:
It's not unreasonable to say that Clinton and McCain share a skepticism about having the president conduct face-to-face diplomatic meetings directly. But Obama strays badly in taking that shared view and equating it with what he calls "the Bush-Cheney policy of not talking to leaders we don't like." Clinton, who was asked about it directly, clearly says she would approach diplomacy differently than the Bush administration has. We find Obama's claim Barely True.

12. Well you're still pregnant...if you're barely dead, you're still dead.
If you're barely black, as some people have said with Obama, you're still black.

If you barely win, as Obama will do Tuesday, you're still a winner. :)

17. if Obama is a change agent then why do Obama people like to play word games?
republicans like to play word games and BS about what the person meant by pretending to interpret the truth with a lie...

this is the game the republicans play... if you want the democrats to be honest then shut up!

14. Good thing it's not a court of law, and he's under oath, eh?
How will "barely true" play if he's called in to testify on the Rezko scandal?

Not as well as it does with his blind followers.

Those idependants and Repubs he has on his side will leave him fast once the truth gets out!

2. Hillary says she'd "approach diplomacy differently", but when she gets into specifics
it's really the same thing. She would hold low-level discussions with our enemies. That's the same policy Bush has.

3. Out of Context...plus Hillary would be the biggest Hawk on Iran right now if she was uncontested
Edited on Sun Feb-03-08 02:43 PM by lxlxlxl
Barack's point was in response to Hillary's "clarification swipe" at a debate when she said "Yes I would talk to them but ONLY after verifying their motives, our interests...blah blah blah." Her point was taken as a swipe at Barack's lack of experience. His response shows that he is serious, and shows that she is strategic when she needs to be.

Like I said in the Subject title. You would have seen a very different Hillary if she was running uncontested. She would be railing against Iran non-stop, and the national discourse in this country would have been "I love the troops" ad absurdum.

15. "the biggest hawk on Iran." Where do you come up with this crap?
Just repeating lies and soon, they become truthy.

so much for change.

19. I really believe that.
See Clinton-era hawkishness on Iraq and both clinton's support of the war this time around.

21. You can believe anything that you want,
Edited on Mon Feb-04-08 10:23 PM by seasonedblue
but it doesn't make it true. Clinton isn't more hawkish than John Edwards or John Kerry or anyone else who voted yes on the IWR, and other than that initial vote that Obama didn't have to make, he's voted the same way on Iraq as she has.

5. In that case, I hope Obama "barely wins" against Hillary.
A win is a win. True is true.

No matter how you spin it.

9. But it is true; she has said so.
Edited on Sun Feb-03-08 02:54 PM by sparosnare
When she says "she would approach diplomacy differently than the Bush administration has" - what does that mean? Just ambiguous words without details which she's good at. She has hit Obama on wanting to talk to our enemies, pointing to that as inexperience.

Just to fair, he did manage 7 trues out of 24 rulings. Pretty good, for him.

22. Obama said he would meet unconditionally with leaders from other countries
Hillary first attacked him for it and then admitted she would do the same.
