Why race will always be a factor....
....let me preface this with the following: I will vote for Senator Obama if he is the nominee, he is smart, ambitious and a fast learner, which is all I need to vote for the top of the Democratic ticket.

But....

The majority of white America, in spite of whatever indoctrination tells them differently, is inherently and completely racist and race-based. Let's build a scenario. By now everyone has seen the picture of a young Obama with a cigarette jutting out of the corner of his mouth. That's a very threatening photo to most white people because 1) the face is dark and doesn't look caucasian and 2) it represents the most base-reptilian brain stem image that white people can conjure up - the face of the powerful black man (I don't need to draw any image other than that). That photo is currently in the multi-media shop of the RNC and it is being altered as we speak to be spliced into a thousand different ads and used to enlarge that image in the minds of the great majority of racist Americans.

Remember Harold Ford? Think of a campaign, on a national level, 1000 times that slimey.

This is why race is such a factor, and why, if Senator Obama is nominated it will be anything but a cakewalk. The only way that it can be overcome is to tie whatever Republican boob is nominated to 1) President Insane and 2) the economy. The message must be loud and clear to overcome the reptile brained.

7. And you're a byproduct of group think....
...and extremely naive. Do you not think that the Republican slime machine is gearing up for an Obama candidacy? I offered an insight, and also a solution and you disregard it. Well, disregard at your own peril.

8. "insight"
You provide insight into your own thinking when you accuse an entire group of people of racism.

9. Are you really that naive?
Or do you have some sort of selective memory device in your head. How many stories do you wish me to send regarding race-based crimes ranging from throwing nooses around a tree in Jena to a white woman accusing a fictious African-American in the drowning of her children (clue: she did it) to the dragging death of an African-American in Texas?

This is where you need to pull your oversized head out of your rectum and understand the problem because the opposition is surely thinking of ways to diminish "hope" and "change." And guess what, the majority of Americans don't check in at DU.

18. Again, you
provide a window to little more than your errors in perception. While there are certainly hate crimes, those who commit them are hardly the majority of voters in the United States.

I would be confident that I have as much or more experience working on issues of race-related hate crimes. I also know that no one can justify making an outarageous and absolutely ignorant statement like this one you made:

"The majority of white America, in spite of whatever indoctrination tells them differently, is inherently and completely racist and race-based."

You should be ashamed of yourself.

28. You are hilarious.
The definition of an ad hominem attack -- Latin for "to argue against the man" -- is when one focuses their attack on a characteristic of a person, as you have done in your obnoxious OP.

Actually, I was being quite hopeful in my comment.

One guy a few days ago said, "....Barack's mother and father whomever they are.." Just today one said that Obama is the only candidate who can't get a cab in 90% of our cities. These type of racist statements are posted several times a day, EVERY DAY.

or I wouldn't have posted what I did. I don't believe we should ever back off from running a candidate just because some people are worried that he can't get elected because of his race.

15. Baloney. All signs point to your post being nonsense.
Obama won in Iowa. He's doing well in several very white states such as CO. According to all CA polls, he's even with Clinton when it comes to the white vote. And just for interest, let me throw this out there: In 1988 Vermont, the whitest state in the union went for Jackson, including the poor, redneck Northeast Kindom where I live and which had under a 100 African American residents at the time.

24. Another member of the.....
...selective memory crowd. Again, I will vote for Senator Obama or Senator Clinton regardless of who is at the top of the ticket. You seem to forget that there is an Atwaterian-Rovian element that will do everything they can to prevent an Obama or Clinton presidency. I focused on the race issue. Maybe you should try some objectivity.

29. We were told the same thing in 06. Deval Patrick would never be elected Governor of a white state
Edited on Sun Feb-03-08 03:05 PM by Mass
with a white male electoral history like MA. He would never win the nomination and, even if he did, he would never be elected.

And, before you tell me that MA is a blue state, remember that we had 16 years of Republican governors, since Dukakis left office.

Well, may be I am wrong, but I seem to remember that Patrick won the nomination against the party elite, then won the governorship with a HUGE majority, and that even if the white woman who was running as governor tried every racist trick she dared to try.

31. Deval barely got the nomination, over 50% voted against him.
In the general, he always polled well ahead of the GOP candidate.
I do see a valid comparision between Barack and Deval - sweet talkers, big promisers.
And so far, Deval's done nothing as Governor.
