Poll question: Did Barack Obama vote against the Iraq War?
It seems there's still some confusion about this.

3. That is partially true
he votes to keep it going for the time being and to begin withdrawals to end it. Has there ever been a vote for a straight "Get out of Iraq right now"?

4. No partial about it. The truth is that both of our candidates continue to vote yes to enable the war

5. He did more than vote against it. He spoke up against it WHILE he was running for the Senate.
That would be when making war with Iraq was sooo popular with a lot of Americans that Hillary Clinton voted for the war because she feared looking unpatriotic.

Let there be no confusion about that.

14. That has nothing to do with this. There are people on DU who still don't know the right answer
so I think it's time to clear up any confusion. That's the only point of this poll.

40. Is that really the only point of this poll?
Here's what you responded to me in a separate response to a post on this thread.

"No partial about it. The truth is that both of our candidates continue to vote yes to enable the war"

Your question doesn't really address some of the reasoning behind a vote. If you don't want to see those other reasons then your question is overly simplified.

I'm a little bit drunk right now so these thoughts might be a tad incoherent. You should be impressed by my lack of typos.

He wasn't in a position to vote against IWR. You knew that.

He spoke out against IWR when it wasn't politically prudent to do so. You knew that too.

So.... is your post an actual question or an ignorant opportunity to encourage snarky replies?

31. Cherry picked line from a paragraph
He said that of the goal - everyone SAID their goal was a stable Iraq. He then spoke of what he thought had to be done - it started with extensive diplomacy - and sounded a lot like Kerry. It had little in common with what Bush did.

Clinton was using the RW distortion tool used in 2004 - and it is as despicable in his hands as in theirs.

15. Hillary Clinton voted to give George W. Bush authority to invade Iraq. That's the facts.
And you, apparently, are very proud of that.

1,000,000 Iraqis now dead because of that vote.

17. I'm not proud of her vote,so instead of putting your feeble words into my mouth, answer the question
I've expressed my dissatisfaction with anyone who did not vote against the war, and that includes Hillary. I've also expressed my dissatisfaction with both Hillary and Obama voting YES to fund the war everytime the vote comes up, so think twice before you make wild claims about me that aren't true.

30. I gave you my answer above. If it doesn't fit your propagandist ploy, then that can't be remedied.
I'm happy to know that you weren't happy with many of our Democrats who foolishly trusted George Bush with the authority to wage a military invasion against a nation that had done us no harm.

I don't know why it is that the Clintons need to drag down others to the level they are when they made mistakes.

As an example, Maureen Dowd recently pointed out that during the Lewinsky affair, the Clintons' lawyers actually submitted legal briefs documenting Alexander Hamilton's sexual affairs in order to lower the bar, lower the standards so as to excuse themselves.

That's shabby.

She made a terrible mistake. John Kerry, John Edwards, Dianne Feinstein and many other good Democrats had the grace and humility to admit they made a mistake. Hillary just can't or won't and it is graceless.

That would be bad enough, but to then to try to diminish the luster of the courageous step taken by Barack Obama -- who was running for a statewide office in Illinois when the idea of going to war was still very popular -- is very Clintonian.

35. There is nothing propagandist about it and there is no ploy. It is just what it is
...a poll to stop any of the confusion that's going on in this forum with some people claiming that Barack voted against the war. With all due respect, I think you're just upset because you're interpreting this as me taking a swipe at Obama, when I am not. I am clearing up a local misconception, albeit not a common one, about Barack and any Iraq War votes. I will admit that I'm doing it more for Hillary's welfare than Barack's, but only for sake of fairness, and I am not taking any swipes at him with this poll.
