Team Obama needs to go "bi"
I was an Edwards guy for pure pragmatic reasons-- because I thought he could beat McCrazy. Obama, good guy, kind of risky though in a direct match up against McCain. But I was stunned yesterday when I asked this question to a trusted friend: "Why does everyone refer to Obama as black or african american when in fact he's bi-racial?" My friend responded, "because in America if you are part black you are all black."
It never dawned on me. And then I got to thinking about all the closet bigots who in the voting booth just won't pull the trigger for any black dude, especially in the general election. My friend is a marketing wizard, a real pro. She said, "team Obama needs to go bi-racial, like now, or else....." I'm afraid she's right.

2. There's still a lot of bigotry around "mixing the races" too
Defining himself as bi-racial might foment that, and evoke the meme of "they'll steal our white wimmenz!"

Besides, people tend to be identified as the ethnicity that's most physically obvious. Anyone not knowing Barack's heritage would describe him as a black man on sight.

3. Early in the primary I had a funny dicussion over that with a friend
She's black and when I said I was voting for Richardson she said "Isn't he half hispanic?" To which I said "he's also half white, he's as white as Obama." She just said "Damn never thought of someone being as white as Obama."

5. its a part of his appeal. You're right.
Obama comes across to me like he good be a bridge builder between races, a healer of the divides preceisely because of his bi-racial status.

12. Yep those are my thoughts also, once I saw dems, who I thought were
color blind and the party of diversity, voting along color lines I knew then Baracks chances were slim to none.
