The Queen Mother Told off Conservative Minister about Gay Employees
Edited on Thu Jan-31-08 05:56 PM by CorpGovActivist
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Bowes-Lyon">God rest Her Gracious Soul, I have a soft spot for the late Queen Mother.

Lectured by a Conservative Minister about employing HOMOSEXUALS in the 1970s, http://www.amazon.co.uk/You-Look-Awfully-Like-Queen/dp/0007148747">the Queen Mother is reported to have quipped that, without them, ""we'd have to go self-service."

When her friend, the gay playwright http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noel_Coward">Noel Coward, was eyeballing some soldiers at a function, http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Bowes-Lyon">she ribbed him: ""I wouldn't if I were you, Noel; they count them before they put them out."

Famously fond of her tipple, she once bellowed in jest: ""When one of you young queens has finished, can you bring this old queen a drink?"

For those who point out - breathlessly, sputteringly - "But, but, but: Hillary has gay servants, er, staffers!"

I say, "Crass meets class! Talk to the tiara! Hitler described the Queen Mother (then the Queen) as 'http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&q=hitler+most+dangerous+woman+elizabeth">the most dangerous woman' in all of Europe, for how she rallied the British people with a fine, upstanding example."

Pisses me off that Rudy got a knighthood, though.

17. To Whom...
... are you making reference? Duke of Hazard? My teddy? Or Prince Philip? Or Andrew? Or Harry?

Oh, the daily news list there is incredible. The woman who runs it (and who has, for years upon years) is a trooper.

This is a guilty pleasure.

Oh, and of course there's http://www.royal.gov.uk/output/Page1.asp">Her Majesty's Official Website, which - unlike Senator Clinton's - http://www.royal.gov.uk/output/page222.asp">has a built-in search feature.

http://www.royal.gov.uk/output/page2495.asp">If you want to figure out whether to curtsy or bow, one site makes it easy to figure out; the other, does not.

during the heaviest bombing of World War II. I always thought that was classy.

8. I Thought Royalty Was Fake (Fairy Tales Only) until I was 8...
... when, home sick from school, I started paging thru the encyclopedias at home.

King George VI's picture caught my eye. I got hooked on geneaology, and my teddy bear got a name that day. One of the names is George. Poor little guy is looking threadbare these days.

He'd been nameless up until that day. Long overdue christening.
