Kerry's Candidacy Gaining Strength as Democrats Unite, WSJ Says.
March 4 (Bloomberg) -- Massachusetts Senator John Kerry has become the strongest Democratic presidential challenger in the past two decades as the formerly fractious political party rallies around his candidacy, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing pollsters and party officials.

Kerry now enjoys the backing of a united party, a positive public image and a narrow national lead over President George W. Bush, the newspaper said.

4. Yes, but in 92 there was not unity until the convention
Mostly because the far-far left and some others didn't like Clinton. Also, many Dems were worried he'd lose because of his past of sexual indescretion.

8. About 6 candidates won delegates in 92.
With Tsongas riding Clinton hard for a while and Jerry Brown fighting hard.

2. Essential to maintain bandwagon momentum
Is to constantly broadcast the unity meme. It is the only way to build a groundswell of support behind not particularly popular candidate Kerry. He is little more than a staid insider who won't threaten the status quo and will maintain the present centrist domination of party power. The strategy has to be to sell unity in opposition to Bush achived with corporate media compliance. Kerry is little more that the pre-selected candidate promoted by the party machine as figurehead.

What's to cheer about?

The fact that your opinion and the other naysayers on DU represent a tiny fraction of the real thought out in the real world.

7. The thing is...Kerry is not a Centrist
despite his IRW vote. Our problem will be the "liberal" label, not that he is too moderate.

9. SHHHHHHHHH.....
A small minority would have us believe Kerry is a BFEE PNAC Skull & Bones War criminal who, despite one of the most liberal voting records in Congress, is actually a Nazi and no different than Bush.

10. the problem is worse than that
he can be shown as a former liberal who began voting conservative since 2000. He can be portrayed as a phony and a waffler. His poor attendence and failure to appear in the Senate for votes will also be used against him.

The Bushistas will stop at nothing. Don't be surprised by anything they turn up.
