Former Carter, Reagan era federal reserve chair Volcker endorses Obama
What is Volcker's background? Is this endorsement a good sign or a bad sign? Is he a progressive or a corporatist?

-nip-

Former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker is "the latest big name to endorse Sen. Barack Obama," according to the Wall Street Journal.

Volcker "could give the Illinois Democrat a boost by lending his gravitas in the financial world to a presidential candidate whose biggest hurdle is to convince voters he is experienced enough."

1. Volcker is a centrist, overall

He is the one many people say is responsible for halting the out of control inflation of the late 70s. Many people also credit him for the economic expansion that took place under Reagan, too, as he was Fed chairman until 1987.

I believe he is a Monitorist (as opposed to a Keynesian), but not nearly as radical as Greenspan.

2. Hard to find a Fed chair who isn't a corporatist.
But Volker is respected. I like him better than Greenspan, and he makes Bernanke look like an idiot (not hard).
